….Until the ‘Hey look; we’re Hollywood executives and are completely fucking redundant as regards new ideas!’ remake/reboot arrives (yes, if you haven’t already guessed it, a remake of Highlander is officially on the way).
Anyway; Good folks: List me films that you believe might actually benefit from a remake and conversely, list me films that should, in your opinion, NEVER be given the remake treatment |

Cabaret
I mean if they do to the film what they have done to the stage show, it will not be a good thing
The idea is great
The execution, I guess, is a matter of taste and subjection |

Personally, anything and everything.
I'm all up for seeing a new Director's vision for an existing story, and if the writers can take it in to new territory and explore new themes, that makes it alluring to me. Obviously not rewrite the whole film, as then it would be different movie of course, but mixing up up a bit ? Yeah sure ! Go for it ! |

"E.T. should never be remade
I'd quite like to see a Pet Cemetery remake though
They did one didn't they? Year or so ago? "
They did. I'd like one that is up to the same standard/better than the original though |

"Rocky Horror Picture Show cannot be remade!! "
I sadly think it’s already been done
Tim Curry was in it but playing the part of the narrator, originally played by the late Charles Gray.
I never actually watched it myself but have heard that it was a bit of an unwelcome dud. |

Yes, this.
Point Break should never have been remade. It was a travesty.

"Ohhh what about some of ray harryhausens films? Jason and the golden fleece sort of thing? "
I saw the remake of, Clash Of The Titans (followed by Wraith Of The Titans).
Despite a good cast, it sadly, for me at least, bore none of the charm of the Harry Hamlin led original. It felt decidedly flat and rather soulless |

Big Trouble In Little China.
A remake is planned which is a terrible idea in my opinion.
And talking of John Carpenter sacrilege: There are plans to remake his classic, Escape From New York.
I mean, who in hell but Kurt Russell could play Snake Plissken?! |

Nooooo! I know that a modern version would have more realistic monsters but much of the charm lies in Harryhausen's animation. They are some of my favourite films because of it.

"Jaws: A masterclass in suspense and terror.
…I can just imagine the utterly sterile, CGI shitfest that Hollywood would doubtlessly bestow upon us now if it were to ever be remade."
Exactly.
Look at the shark films since..Deep Blue Sea, The Meg, Men Of Courage, The Reef.
Despite being made made nearly 40yrs later, the sharks look so unconvincing (we wont mention Jaws 2 and Jaws 3).
As said above, the Point Break remake was a travesty.
Rollerball.
Total Recall
Flatliners
Get Carter
Red Dawn
All woeful
But, probably the biggest insult of all...the impending remake of Roadhouse.
Why oh why oh why??? |

A remake of The Crow is apparently in the pipeline to.
Another sequel I’m all for, but isn’t it more than a tad disrespectful to the memory of the late Brandon Lee to remake his classic last film?

I think they should remake Debbie Does Dallas.
Onky this time it should be about 90's pop sensation Debbie Gibson banging the entire surviving cast of 80's hig TV show Dallas.
A guaranteed winner.

"I wouldn't mind any film being remade.
It would open up some of the classics to a whole new generation. "
Absolutely !
Films rarely age well because more often than not they are written for the audience of the day. Language, taste and sensibilities change.
Romeo and Juliet 1996 by Baz Luhrmann (Featuring Di Caprio) is a good example of a remake that fits that concept well. |

Any film where the original was successful either critically, commercially or both is really best left alone.
But then I think they should be looking for original ideas anyway, give original writers the work and audiences new stories.
Personally I’d hate to see most 80’s films remade. Especially John hughes/brat pack films and those my favourite stars were in.
