So this is a thread all about covers of songs that do justice to the original in your opinion.

Maybe you feel the cover is better than the original?

I will start with

‘Jealous Guy’ by Roxy Music.

I actually prefer their version to John Lennon’s.

Let’s hear yours.

Guns & Roses’ version of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, and Live or Let Die. Both better than the originals IMO

Great thread OP. Always said there's a fine art to doing a good cover version. You need to put your own spin on it, but still respect the original. Some of my favourites are...

Come Up And See Me (Make Me Smile) by Duran Duran.

I Second That Emotion by Japan

Feeling Good by Muse

Miles Hunt (of The Wonder Stuff) does a belting acoustic version of UB40's one in ten on his 'From the Midlands with love' album.

The Mission did a cover of Aerosmiths 'Dream On', which IMO is much better than the original

Siouxsie absolutely blows The Beatles out of the competition with Dear Prudence

Depeche Modes version of The King Cole Trios 'Route 66' is excellent- particularly the Behind The Wheel mix version

"So this is a thread all about covers of songs that do justice to the original

Guns & Roses’ version of Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, and Live or Let Die. Both better than the originals IMO

Chuck in Sympathy for the devil to that for a covers version hat-trick "

Check out Motorheads version of Sympathy...Lems voice is brilliant

"I should have maybe asked for really bad covers also.

This one is worth checking out. It’s actually a live gig which makes it worse.

I know it’s a cut and paste job but it’s so terrible it may be worth it.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FjeMDvCdrtc"

Bad cover...... Live version;

Gregory Porter covering "It's probably me", while an increasingly uncomfortable Sting sits front row.

It's truly fucking dreadful.

Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal is my favourite.

The Less Than Jake Greased album is great and I'm really enjoying everything by Punk Rock Factory at the moment too!

MOROCCO Wherever I lay my hat

Always on my mind - released by various artists but the Pet Shop Boys version is my favourite.

And whilst I'm thinking about Elvis... Suspicious Minds is another covered classic

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. I dig Leonard Cohen and all, but for me its the finest rendition of this song.

Human League you've lost that loving feeling. Miles better arrangement than the Righteous brothers song, Phil Oakey nails it.

Controversial though this may be, I actually prefer the Glee Cast / Gwyneth Paltrow version of Landslide as it’s more folksy sounding.
