shops from when young, no longer ?

Private Shops, not that I went into them when I was younger. Every city and town of note had one tucked away on an ever so slightly run down road just a little out of the centre. Years later I was to find that behind the blacked out windows was an Aladdins Cave of sleaze. Also, they all seemed to have a calor gas heater in them. |

There's one still in south Wales. With a calor gas heater going strong.
It's been there for as long as I can remember. I don't know how it still makes a living with all the porn online these days. |

"Beattie's (toy shop)
Electronics Boutique.
HMV
Our Price
Toys R Us
Childrens World (like a knock-off toys r us)
Hmv still exists you need to Google see where it is in your location "
So it does...although it's just a small handful of stores now.
Apparently there's one within 10 miles of me, but all the others are so far away.
In its heyday HMV was a prominent feature of my town centre, it's closing made the local news. |

Debenhams.
Did Covid finish them off or are there still some branches open? They’re still online.
On the other hand, I remember a time when retail parks didn’t exist here. |

They were purchased by boohoo.com who still use the name for some of their online services, but Debenhams as we knew it is finito. |

Thank you, that’s explains it. It’s a little sad to see the huge Debenhams premises on our High Street here. It is being converted to yet more restaurants and cafes. |

"Rumblelows - kitted out my flat with necessary electronics when I left home in the late 80s. Just return it when want to change / upgrade. "
Rumbelows was the best. I remember we always had a telly and VCR on hire because 'you cannot afford to fix them WHEN they go wrong' not IF they go wrong... |

I can remember visiting Focus for all my materials for work. It only seems like yesterday when I was in there wheeling out patio slabs and bags of cement.
I just googled it and the last store closed in 2011 how time flies. |

The last Wimpey I spotted was down in Swanage. It was more like a small independant cafe than a chain. I thought they were good as Burger King back in the day. I wonder they have died out. |

"Radio rentals"
Ooooooo yes! I remember going there with my Dad, to pay for the rental of my Granny's telly. I wonder if such a concept would work nowadays, to rent tellies or games consoles instead of buying? Hmmmmmm |

Dixons for example, was probably bought by someone like currys and absorbed.
It's the same with the car industry.
Some old firms bought out and merged into the parent company.

Further investigation reveals that it was Dixons that bought Currys.
But in 2006 the Dixons name was gone for good, just leaving the Currys name. |
