Planning.

So, I'm planning a rather delightful jaunt with my favourite disgruntled pug.

And it's got me thinking, what are you like when it comes to planning? Are you the sort to work out all the minutiae details? Do you prefer to have things planned for you or go with the flow?

I hate planning but at the same time my overactive over thinking brain is throwing all sorts of scenarios at me that planning would solve no problem. Though then once planned, more scenarios pop up!

You know me associate ~ fly by the seat of my pants and see how it pans out

I just don’t enjoy organisation and planning. I want it to be spontaneous and exciting.

I enjoy planning fun days out, more so because if you just leave it to flow organically you can end up missing bits as you stick to what you know.

It also means I can fit in visits to the Lego shop!

I'm kind of mixed with this Meli. I like certain things like the accommodation to be just so, and to find out what restaurants are worth a visit. I like planning that, and I've found some cracking Airbnb's in the past. But with regards to activities, I don't like to have a set itinerary, I'll get an idea of different options in the area and we can pick and choose depending on mood, weather, whether we actually make it out of bed etc.

Op. I’m was always a bit of a mix. I like an itinerary, but happy to ditch things and improvise if I think something looks more suitable.

My plans have all gone to shit anyway, so I don’t plan anything anymore.

I’m a last minute kind of gal usually but there’s something really exciting about a special event that I like getting stuck into. I’ll make a thousand and one itineraries then stick to none of them. That way I there’s options without commitment. Best of both worlds!

I think it’s good to plan a time and place & then just pencil in the rest

I like to be in control of all the planning so I know its right as I'm an organised person

I do like suprises too though, but that's different.

It's like a military operation for me... I've got at least 2 trips that need organising, really must get on it!

Once I've done "the thing" though I'm quite happy to bumble about.

We like to travel a lot (last summer we interrailed around France, Spain, back to france, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, back to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium) in the space of 5 weeks, taking in lots of cities and beaches. I plan everything with military precision. J on the other hand will happily pack a rucksack and decide if he’s going to turn left or right.

Me and planning have a love/hate relationship. I tend to either obsessively over think plans, a bit like trying to chose a film on Netflix then realising I have no time to watch after hours of procrastination or I don't plan, at all and panic instead...

Overthinking is truly a curse isn't it? I think you can definitely over plan sometimes! It's good to see how things naturally happen but if you're in your own head too much you kind of miss out on the fun of it.

That's very you.

Spontaneity and exciting is good. Excellent even. But when you've got to schedule things, other commitments, book flights etc, sometimes planning is an evil necessity. I sometimes get the urge to throw caution to the wind and just ask people, hey, you free? But then the overthinking kicks in.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I like to make a ‘groundwork’ or fundamental plan so to speak (departure times, time of arrival etc) but also make a point to encompass and allow into this, leeway time for impromptu adventure (possibly a bit of unplanned sightseeing for instance)

I always buy pants with a re-enforced seat...because it gets used for flying quite frequently!

My overthinking brain truly needs the false security of a well detailed plan. Unfortunately the same overthinking brain will tell me the plan will go wrong in many ways

Restaurants/food consideration are a key component to any planning. Being more freeflowing with activities is good, it means you don't feel guilt or pressure to do all of those things and you can relax and enjoy yourself. One of the least enjoyable holidays I've had was when I was handed a full itinerary of activities planned. Down to the hour. Did we make all of them? No. Did I have to deal with a grumpy girlfriend? Yes.

I have to plan my journey to the second, and check where the bathroom facilities are.

If I'm going on a long journey I'll have a little meltdown the night before.

When it comes to places of interest and restaurants we tend to pick one place we really want to go, then wander around looking for somewhere to eat afterwards. If we have time we might detour somewhere else. That's in London, with my sister.

I like to have a set time and starting point.

Options without commitment. I feel like this could be your motto.

It's a strong one though. Love special events.

If a friend ever made a commitment to not abandon you for a dicking, that's a good commitment to have surely?

I like to plan details if it's a long way away, but if its local we just tend to go and do it.

Obviously if the kids come we have to dress them and all that shit. *rolls eyes. Lol

Yes but there should be options in place for I would never want to stop someone getting said dicking.

I like to prepare a sort of outline idea of what when where etc because I hate to miss anything, and always worry about the what ifs... but I also prepare for some flexibility and chaos response because stuff happens that we can't predict and sticking to plans can sometimes mean missing things too.

So, short answer, both.

Not all that North of North London

I struggle with spontaneity but also have enough executive dysfunction that I find plans overwhelming, it's a winning combination!

Broad plans, with flexibility built in to them. There has to be a plan but the plan can change
