I am paid hourly and nearly every flaming day I work at least an hour over without pay just to stay on top of my work load.
Just 1 hour a day over a month is a lot of hours. Almost a weeks wages!
I am just having a moan, I worked an hour an hour over today
Anyone else have to put in extra unpaid hours?
Or, once you hit logging of time are you out of there, sharpish? |

Stop staying without pay.
If your workload is unmanageable in the time you're being paid to work then talk to whoever is above you about delegating some of it elsewhere or paying you for the extra time. |

Unless you are management, you shouldn't be doing this regularly without it being highlighted and compensated properly for it. Tell your manager that you're not doing this week in week out anymore without pay. Hint about contacting HR and hopefully they get the message |

I never work unpaid. I have Flexi time, so either use that time to go in late a different day or claim overtime
If you're paid hourly can you not tell them what time you finish and claim the extra hours? |

No...can't claim them back. We are targeted and if we don't hit them then no bonus!

I used to stay hours over finishing time, just to make the next day a little easier, not only for myself but for my team as well. I couldn't switch off and it was mentally draining. I stopped when others on my level were being rewarded for doing the bare minimum and I didn't even get a "thank you" for all the extra work I was doing.
Now I make sure I clock out on time every day, and any extra time I do is given back. I refuse to give more of myself to an employer that only views me as a number. |

If you are getting a bonus for hitting the target, that has been achieved by your additional commitment, then you are being remunerated for the additional hours.
If you chose not to do the extra hours, thus missing the target you would not get the bonus.

I used to do shed loads of free overtime.. At least 15-25 hours a week
I've now moved to a 9 day fortnight.. The work doesn't go away, but i feel better |

It's a bad habit giving them free time. Once you start you don't stop. I had one boss used to send me home at going home time. |

They're getting the results in their budget because you choose to give them your extra time and energy for free. They'll soon notice when targets are being missed because they won't pay. |

Then there would be no requirement for a bonus.
The fact that your wages are being added too with a bonus is payment in recognition of the extra work you have done to achieve the target.
I am merely pointing out that the extra work someone does is being paid.
You are not getting the money week on week but in the bonus.

As I understand it a bonus is in addition to wages, not instead of. I wouldn't expect to have to work extra hours for a Christmas bonus for instance |

of coarse it will fall on deaf ears as your all doing the work in your own time .
another note is your all wanting your bonuses.
to be honest here youve all shot yourself in the foot
you all want your bonuses so of coarse your goiung to do the extra hrs work for them.
the one thing your going to have to consider here is the bonus worth the extra free hrs you put in to get it.
is it worth the hrs or isnt it.
you decide if it or isnt no point finishing because of it. |

You get the bonus for achieving the target, if the target is achievable in normal working hours then basically you are suggesting that you should get a bonus for doing what you have been paid to do.
I believe a bonus is paid in recognition of going the extra mile.
The choice is down to the individual, work your stated hours and get your basic pay, or put in the extra hours and get paid a bonus.
I did preface my original comment by saying it was probably an unpopular opinion but it is, none the less, my opinion. |

Like someone said above does the bonus only really cover the extra hours you put in for it anyway so it becomes pointless. Sounds totally crap for you. I like where I work the ladies would put up mutiny if they had to work even a minute over hours, it just wouldnt happen but realise all industries are different. |

That's the real kicker....by achieving the bonus they think they are reasonable. People can't afford to make a stand and forgo the bonus so they put in the extra graft,
which only reinforces their practice. It's a vicious circle. |

In most jobs, especially managerial lobs you just work for as long as it takes. It has be ome the norm in this country unfortunately and technology had not helped either. What manager can ignore an urgent email that comes through to their phone? All the people I know work 10 -12 hour days most of the time when they are supposed to do 7.5 - 8 according to their contract and they often have to do extra work at weekend. This may be different for you but in most places pt hourly paid staff usually just do their hours but obviously depends on the nature of the job, targets etc. Sadly in your care it seems you are expected to do more but not given the time to do it. |

I must admit I feel I'm lucky in my job, I only occasionally work over my hours but that's generally my choice to get something finished, my work doesn't expect me to do it which makes me feel like I don't mind. It also works both ways as if I need to go to an appointment for doctors, dentist or hospital appointment that can only be done during my work hours they're happy for me to go and don't expect me to make the time up. It's give and take and means happy employees happy work place x |

Watch this space, for more than one reason I think it's time to move on. I think one of the reasons I've stayed so long is that I have some great working relationships, a great work family. It's takes a while to become established there, If I were to put my notice in management would be very surprised. And yes, they would listen just as they have done to many others...it never amounts to anything. I have literally fought in the past to make tiny changes and to be honest it's just too much like hard work!
I'm glad you have a job that makes you feel valued and yes ..I too wouldn't mind putting in extra time now and then to get the job done. After al, I want to do a good job as crappy as it is x
