Try Birdemic.
An indie rip-off of Hitchcock's The Birds. |

If you fancy a brit flick about aging rockers trying to get the band back together, and the failure and triumph of it all staring some big names in 90s Brit cinema....
check out "Still Crazy" it is genuinely my favourite movie ever. Its not especially clever but its good fun with good tunes and a real feelgood vibe |

They're not new films and I don't know where you'd find them. We have them on dvd. But they're worth the effort "

"The unbearable weight of massive talent.
Nicholas Cage as Nicholas Cage what's not to like?"
Doesn't Nicholas Cage always just play Nicholas Cage? He's one of those actors that I associate with being the same in every role.
Maybe not as much as Ryan Reynolds though. |

"Tropic Thunder
Brilliant movie! Tom cruise with those hands!"
Class act...
Les Grossman: Great. Let me get this down. 100 million... Oh, wait! I got a better idea. Instead of a hundred million, how about I send you a hobo's dick ...
Look, fuckstick, I'm incredibly busy. So why don't you get the hell out of here before I snap your dick off and jam it into your ass...
No, dickhead. Of course I could. A nutless monkey could do your job. Now, go get d*unk and take credit at all the parties.
Okay, Flaming Dragon. F*ckface. First, take a big step back... and literally f*ck your own face! Now, I don't know what kind of pan-Pacific bullsh*t power play you're trying to pull here, but Asia, Jack, is my territory. So whatever you're thinking, you'd better think again. Otherwise I'm gonna have to head down there and I will rain down an ungodly f*cking firestorm upon you! You're gonna have to call the f*cking United Nations and get a f*cking binding resolution to keep me from f*cking destroying you. I am talking scorched earth, motherf*cker! I will massacre you! I will f*ck you up! (hangs up and asks assistant) Find out who that was.

There are some great recommendations on this film; you've probably seen these but in terms of lighter, quirky indie films to watch - Seeking A Friend For the End of the World. And Palm Springs.
Another Earth is fantastic but quite heavy watching. |

Tonight we were thinking of Winters Bone - early one for Jenifer Lawrence. |

Shameful. So shameful. Love Winter's Bone. I have a soft spot for Silver Linings - that depiction of love, the complexities of navigating life while processing the crap it can throw at you. Perfect. |

On a whinging side note; why the hell are movies so bloody long these days?!
I watched The Batman the other week…..almost THREE BLOODY HOURS! (and I can’t in all honesty report that said duration was particularly riveting at that!) |

I know right? Sometimes I don't want to donate a chunk of my day to watching a film. I love the 90 minute category Netflix has though |

Some of the old epic Hollywood movies were real long, like Cleopatra from 1963 which was over 4 hours long. |

Amen to that! Back in the eighties and nineties, 90 mins (give or take ten mins either side) was usually the norm and the filmmakers got the job done without unnecessary ‘padding’. |

I think we should reintroduce the old mid time intermissions in Cinemas (thankfully there’s a pause button on streaming services though!) |

Your original post asked for quirky. Well I watched a very quirky film a few weeks ago - a Japanese film called Air Doll.
I’m a huge fan of the director Hirokazu Koreeda, but this is quite different from his usual stuff. About a sex doll that comes to life. It sounds silly, the dvd cover makes it look like a porn film (there is very little sexy in it), but it ends up being a beautiful - and quirky - film about being human.

Theres an old cinema in Gt Yarmouth that still has reel to reel films, its actually a welcome break as the seats in it are still wooden benches. the cigarette girl still walks round selling snacks, its a nice throw back. |
