Everyone is the hero in their own story. History use to, though now social media decides if that true. I would say they do because they’re not really looking for a relationship. They’ve relinquished all responsibility of what it takes to meet and charm someone else and instead opted to put all the blame on the specific demographic they are attracted to. Thus they really seek others to share their miss placed anger, rather than a relationship which they would have to share equal responsibility for its success or failure. Incel is a horrible and misguided mental illness. This is a horrible comparison but in a way it seems equivalent to a non human hunter moaning about the pray not walking up to them and placing their neck in their mouth to munch on? |

Those lyrics are good for though don’t you think.
These young men didn’t start life as women hating incels. They travel a life journey of unsuccessful attempts to date and then slide further down a slippy slope of rejection.
Some Women, especially young women, can be very cruel when rejecting mens advances. They don’t realise they effect on young mens confidence and mental health.
Women seem to hate the likes of Tate, who oozes confidence and bravado, yet don’t think twice of referring to some young, more fragile men as creeps because they don’t fancy them.
It’s very sad, and the reality is that suicide happens much more than mass killings, but that never makes the incel headlines.
Andrew tate isn’t hated because of his confidence he’s hated because of his blatant misogyny.

I'm going to guess once you start accessing Incel sites and forums for the purposes of joining the circle jerk you do.
Oddly enough as I've come to understand myself a bit more I've come to understand how some people on spectrum can easily get carried away with intrests in radical groups (especially when combined with other circumstances). Luckily I've also been able to re-ground myself in wider context, gut instinct and fact checking. But admittedly I understand the draw of a new rabbit hole to go down and the zeal for a new intrest/fascination that can develop in terms of spectrum traits. And I've seen it in freinds too. I understand that draw as I've experimented and challenged ideas trying to make sense of the world over the years. But I suspect radicalisation and spectrum traits is a topic for another discussion. |

I suppose when people feel ostracised by society they end up falling in with people in the same position. Unfortunately this makes them more likely to be exposed to (and in some cases develop) extreme views.
There are some horrific views and characters within the incel community but I do think a lot of incels are lost souls who end up digging themselves deeper into the hole and just need a bit of help to rejoin society. |

From what I’ve read and seen in documentaries the issue seems to be the incels see themselves as excluded from sexual relationships. They rationalise this by externalising the problem into women (developing an extreme misogyny) while weirdly also harming themselves in ways intended to make them more attractive to women.
The line between incels and the toxicity of things like love island is really quite thin. |

All groups love a label, it gives them the sense of belonging they crave - even if it's mad as toast, they also like to be a victim and have something easy to blame that is external to them and takes no self evaluation or self improvement. Same traits as racism, I cannot get X or Y because of those (insert minority) ergo they hate them, allows for something external to blame. |

Also controlling the use of porn so kids can’t watch it. I was watching porn when my age was in single digits. I used to say it hadn’t affected me but in hindsight it did. Little kids growing up to think any woman is about to do the most extreme sex acts on you, then have no clue of how to attract a partner, never being shown what a real relationship looks like.
It’s why I don’t watch so much porn now. Not because I don’t enjoy it, but because I feel it damages societies when their young ones can view it on tap. |

It's the lack of self awareness I find most troubling and the preparedness to stand on the high ground and so willingly cast aspersions at anyone else. Sure its the easy option but the knee bone is very much connected to the thigh bone. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending anyone. But observing endless finger pointing and piss taking doesn't serve us well and sometimes a little thought and kindness might have better outcomes. |

...Or how about parents do their jobs and educate their kids on the dangers of the internet. You know raise their kids to be decent human beings rather than relying on tiktok to babysit. Maybe then we wouldn't have a generation with zero social skills that can be sucked in to ridiculous groups because they got shot down a few times by girls.

If you google incels on a normal search engine you’ll find the forums within 4/5 clicks. The stuff posted on them is savage I had to do a lot of research for a uni assignment and it honestly made me feel sick reading some of the stuff.

No don’t silence anyone I don’t agree with, that’s a silly thing to say. Parenting has a huge part to play but unfortunately there are always going to be parents who don’t care what their kids access therefore there needs to be a wider responsibility taken for making the access harder. |

Good practical questions there. Childrens opinions are formed by what they’re exposed to in a nutshell. It’s partly from the displayed and discussed ethics in the home, views of their peers, what they learn at school and online. Obviously there will always be contrasting and contradictory opinions from these influences which is good because it teaches them to make their own choices and form their own opinions.
The line has to be drawn when your opinions and views lead you to cause harm to others surely? |

Also controlling the use of porn so kids can’t watch it. I was watching porn when my age was in single digits. I used to say it hadn’t affected me but in hindsight it did. Little kids growing up to think any woman is about to do the most extreme sex acts on you, then have no clue of how to attract a partner, never being shown what a real relationship looks like.
It’s why I don’t watch so much porn now. Not because I don’t enjoy it, but because I feel it damages societies when their young ones can view it on tap.
A good point, but much of the communication is via the dark Web, therefore difficult to monitor.
If you google incels on a normal search engine you’ll find the forums within 4/5 clicks. The stuff posted on them is savage I had to do a lot of research for a uni assignment and it honestly made me feel sick reading some of the stuff.
I get why people want to be sympathetic to their plight and come across as wanting to help but honestly a lot of them are way past it"

Then you have practical questions like.. Who determines what is harmful? Or radical? Where do children have their opinions and values formed?
Good practical questions there. Childrens opinions are formed by what they’re exposed to in a nutshell. It’s partly from the displayed and discussed ethics in the home, views of their peers, what they learn at school and online. Obviously there will always be contrasting and contradictory opinions from these influences which is good because it teaches them to make their own choices and form their own opinions.
The line has to be drawn when your opinions and views lead you to cause harm to others surely?"
But what pratcially does "the line has to be drawn" mean? What actions are taken when people cross the line? Does it also apply to religions.?(eg many religions and traditions have very different values to our "correct" Western thinking don't they? And yet we encourage them to live among us? I think there are many reasons for being incel. Being introverted due to outside circumstances and social anxiety being amongst them.
I would probably identify as an incel, but have never been misogynistic. However I suffer severe hearing loss from.a young age. Socially it can be restrictive and lead to many misunderstandings.
Past treatment from others men and women has made me wary of forming relationships with others.
This is not me being sorry for.myself I have got om with life and have a lot to be proud of myself. However,.there are things that don't change

If a woman of comparative attractiveness to his own made a move on him, he'd turn her down, and say she is fat and ugly, without irony.

There have always been people in society who are marginalised or are “misfits”. Human nature is to be part of a tribe/tribalism and these people feel apart from that or excluded.
The internet is a wonderful thing as it provides easy access to all manner of information and the ability to connect and make communities.
The internet is also a terrible thing as it provides easy access to all manner of information and the ability to connect and make communities.
People who were previously isolated can now connect with other likeminded souls to share their views and encourage behaviour.
So-called “losers” can find a focus for their social ills and anger at society or specific groups in society.
They can also then be preyed on, manipulated and (most importantly) exploited for financial gain by the likes of Andrew Tate and all those other “self help gurus” (for a fee/subscription to their programme).
The Covid pandemic combined with an increasingly online/social media existence has exacerbated the problems.
It is dangerous and rather than mocking we should be tackling. |

My apologies for any offence - before I posted this thread, my understanding and knowledge of incels was informed almost solely on the misogyny and aggressive self-victimizing that the more outspoken/reported online groups/celebs are known for.
While of course there are people who are indeed involuntarily celibate, I don't believe that makes them an 'incel', as the term itself now holds a very specific connotation that obviously does not apply to everyone.
Of course, with labels flying about left and right, we may just be arguing semantics here so having open discussions like this where we can learn from another and experience different viewpoints is hugely important imo.
Fab is certainly not the best forum for such debates but I believe it's better than nothing (or 8chan) as there are some nuggets of truth and wisdom among these hallowed virtual halls |

Good on the Canadian woman. Obviously it was a shortening of two words only, both of which say exactly what they mean, without elaboration or having motives attached.
When the question 'What’s an incel?' was first raised in this thread, I was tempted to reply "A derogatory term applied to some of the less fortunate by some of the more fortunate in order to make the latter feel even better about their more fortunate selves".

A lack of interest in the world around us seems to be worn as a badge of honour by an increasingly large number of people these days. I think it is a shame.
Some people finds it affects their mental health negatively.
It has a negative impact on my mental health and I can have long periods of not seeing or reading the news. It's how I look after myself.
Absolutely the same here ^^ Nothing wrong with keeping up on world affairs but the media figured out a long time ago that disaster and strife sells so that's the majority of what they churn out.

These young men didn’t start life as women hating incels. They travel a life journey of unsuccessful attempts to date and then slide further down a slippy slope of rejection.
Some Women, especially young women, can be very cruel when rejecting mens advances. They don’t realise they effect on young mens confidence and mental health.
Women seem to hate the likes of Tate, who oozes confidence and bravado, yet don’t think twice of referring to some young, more fragile men as creeps because they don’t fancy them.
It’s very sad, and the reality is that suicide happens much more than mass killings, but that never makes the incel headlines.

if this was any other demographic group, there would be a huge effort and lots of funding available to help them, groups set up for support and lessons on how to talk to women respectfully and people to give them some confidence and self esteem. Then some of the online fucktards who pretty much radicalise them in the same way thats seen with various religions, wouldn't have the power and influence they do |

You exactly make my point. You only hear about disaster and strife and nothing else if your interest in the world is a passive absorption of the most readily available "news" mainstream or otherwise. The world around you should be about more than the headline in your echo chamber of choice and doesn't inherently have anything to do with "the media" again, mainstream or otherwise. There is the world around you in the most literal sense, an interest in the people and things in your immediate vicinity or scale that up to include all of our fellow human beings, informing ourselves and understanding the world we live in and the people in it is the most human of endeavours. A conversation with the person sat next to you on the bus or reading a paper on the latest breakthrough in building a useful fusion reactor and everything inbetween all goes towards making us better people and the world a better place. It was a lack of interest in that pursuit of knowledge and understanding of the world around us that I was decrying.
When I first read about the internet, many many years ago now, I was convinced it would change the world in a positive way, that bigotry and hate are born of ignorance and what better tool could there be to counter that than the world and all its knowledge at your finger tips. It hasn't really worked out like that. Incel seems to be one of many identities that could have been something very positive and supportive, but has been hijacked by a radical and unpleasant fringe, whatever the intentions of the Canadian lady who apparently coined the phrase (I've learnt something new) |

My apologies for any offence - before I posted this thread, my understanding and knowledge of incels was informed almost solely on the misogyny and aggressive self-victimizing that the more outspoken/reported online groups/celebs are known for.
While of course there are people who are indeed involuntarily celibate, I don't believe that makes them an 'incel', as the term itself now holds a very specific connotation that obviously does not apply to everyone.
Of course, with labels flying about left and right, we may just be arguing semantics here so having open discussions like this where we can learn from another and experience different viewpoints is hugely important imo.
Fab is certainly not the best forum for such debates but I believe it's better than nothing (or 8chan) as there are some nuggets of truth and wisdom among these hallowed virtual halls "

Hmmm don’t think size of volume of any of these crimes, larger or smaller is the point. All the crimes mentioned, regardless of gender are despicable and wrong. None of the mentions crimes in these threads should be treat more or less important based on a numerical value. I don’t believe in censorship as no one person or pocket of people have the right or wisdom to determine what legal content should be allowed or not. However I do agree, the more extreme groups of Incel and Feminist groups, are, have been and will be very damaging to society and the generations that grow up during this as both based on control, dominance and abuse of power rather than on equality, mutual respect and empathy |
