To get better.
Yep, there are lots of viruses/bugs going around. And I need, repeat need, to be better for next week.
So - what do you do when you're poorly (including man flu because why isn’t that taken seriously)?
Any old wives' tales that you've found to have worked?

I've taken vit D since the first time I had COVID.
I had that chest infection that's been going round and have started vitamin c too now ,dissolved in water and feel like it's helped.
Echinacea is supposed to be helpful in keeping your immune in good order too.

What works for me is staying in bed, sleeping, drinking water, taking paracetamol regularly & grazing on fruit. If you can do this for 24 hours other than getting up for the loo you can break the back of it. Get well soon x |

So I’ve had the latest winter bug all week, mornings I felt like death warmed up, decided eating spicy homemade ramen helped, probably just the spicy broth and veg that did the trick for me |

My father always swore by a hot toddy. Just don't stint on the whiskey. Realistically, the lemon juice provides vit C, the honey allegedly helps fight bugs (if only by providing fuel for the immune system) and the whiskey makes you feel less miserable... |

Obviously you sit and feel sorry for yourself, make exaggerated snuffly sounds, and moan about how ill you are until somebody makes you a cup of tea and gets you some paracetamol. Honestly Meli, I thought you would have known that! Tsk |

"An old wives tale is a bottle of whiskey and a candle.
Light the candle and watch it burn while drinking the whiskey and you will soon forget your cold"
Sounds like a plan, might try it this weekend
I’m not actually ill. But hey ho |

This, plus paracetamol for pain /fever/body aches.
You can gargle with salt water or soluble Aspirin if you have a sore throat. I found the soluble Aspirin with taking paracetamol a blessing when I had tonsillitis.
Bone on chicken soup is supposed to be good for recovery too.
Rest as much as possible.
Try flat lemonade or Lucozade if you don't feel like eating.

I’m trying everything and a week later still like crap, I’ve got uncontrollable coughing to the point of nearly being sick and gasping for air, banging head and fever. I’m on vit c with zinc, vit d, cold and flu capsules, hot lemonade, honey, hot water with lemons, cough medicine (third bottle) along with fireball, various lozenges, decongestants, vic on the chest and insoles of feet, chicken soup etc. so think I’ll take defeat and just give up |

Hope you feel better soon Meli
I find hot baths, hot honey and lemon drink and plently of sleep helps!
If you have a blocked nose, definitely steam that bathroom and sit in there for a while.

Not really. Vitamin C and D won't do any harm, but unless you have a poor diet they're unlikely to aid much. Many modern diets are low in salt, magnesium and sometimes potassium, but they probably won't help recovery much. |

Thank you you beautiful people! There are a few offers I'd love to take up in this thread. I'm in/out of sleep atm, taken various vitamins and paracetamol. The poor sod of a fiancé is on doctor duty. Relieved it's the weekend. |

"Deepthroat a dildo and record it
I don't think I could manage even four inches right now. It's probably the worst thing about it, having to retire my mouth for a few days. "
Ah if only you had done it a month ago like you said!
Jokes! Get better soon your siren! X |

I take N-acetyl cysteine supplements when getting or having flu symptoms as per this journal article
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7649937/
2 x600mg capsules (1200mg) each morning before any food but the article says you can take this dose twice a day
You can buy it from amazon
We used this along with coenzyme q10 and quercetin when we got covid last winter but i use these whenever i feel like i might come down with something
Also had honey lemon ginger infusion with cinnamon.. Best made using the whole lemon (organic unwaxed)
Hope you feel better soon! I was supposed to start back at work yesterday but was all shivery and achy so couldn't which now impacts my work next week. Grr. |

In The Box of Delights, Kay is advised to take a posset: a jorum of hot milk, egg, treacle, and nutmeg.
But perhaps a really good hot chocolate might be better, if you can hold it down. Protein, sugars, and milk is soothing.
Do get well soon, dear Meli. The Great Chain of Being is missing one of its vital links whilst you are off-kilter. |

Sorry to hear that you're not well.
Over the last few years I've found a system that either reduces the severity of any colds I get, and sometimes heads them off completely.
At the first sign of a tingle in my throat, I get myself a load of orange juice and vegetables, and I bombard my system with vitamins. If I am quick enough, sometimes the sore throat doesn't develop into anything else, and if it does, the cold symptoms are mild and go away quickly. |

My Nan used to give us witches brew, which I think was treacle, vinegar, honey and hot water, not sure if it made us better or we just said we were better so we didn’t get another one |
