What are your thoughts on Twitter?

Is it great tool for the world? Is it an awful platform that encourages division? Or are you just totally indifferent?

Keen to know what people think

Somewhere In The Ether…

I’m happily indifferent and don’t go on it myself.

It's an absolute cesspit of hot takes that dulls the minds of people where a serious conversation can't possibly ever take place

Great for breaking news.

It's also great for debate.

The problem with all social media is how the information is curated and managed.

We know bots help to socially engineer and steer perception.

Government's use nudge units to control people by fear.

Twitter by itself isn't the problem, it's how easy it can be used for the above.

I love it. I mute the stuff I don’t like to see and use it mostly for football news. There is a lot of negatives to it but some of the funniest things I have ever seen have came from that app.

I’m leaning towards this view too. Also it’s a brainwashing tool - I’ve seen peoples personalities totally change after spending time on that app. Suddenly they see the world as “good” vs “evil”. And that’s it.

There must be some addictive quality too because hardened users seem to think that the world revolves around it.

Love it. Been using it since 2008 and find it invaluable. Works for me

There's some very funny stuff on there.

Depends on how you use it I suppose. I think it's great fun and useful.

I love Twitter. It's brilliant for pointing out that the Emperor has no clothes; more positively, there are brilliant pockets of community and knowledge.

I only really follow football accounts, the “banter” pages and a few celebrities. I still see some disgusting stuff but I either mute it or just ignore it.

That's the problem with a character limit and a need to feel seen. Shades of grey and nuance don't exist

I can see how you might become invested in it but for me, I've only ever used it for score updates and would have no impact if it was gone tomorrow.

Same. Although since it changed hands it appears the algorithms have also changed as some less appealing tweets have been appearing in my feed.

Kind of indifferent whilst at the same time very concerned about the impact it and similar platforms have on our lives. The way it programs us to communicate, to create content, to consume content.

The way it programs the brain to think in 128 byte shorthand maximum rather than a proper thought and limitless process. The way it encourages keyboard warrior behaviour to dump thoughts with no consideration for any Consequences. It's a toxin on the world.

Yup - also the way that it plays on a very common human desire. The desire for “fame” and attention.

People say all kinds of wild and extreme things in the hope that they’ll get attention. It’s one of the most obvious things about Twitter. Most people don’t mean what they say, nor care about topics they discuss, they just want attention and will do anything to get it.

And lately it seems the easiest way to do that is to be outraged by everything

Forget about all the features, they got hacked recently and millions of user's personal information are out for sale. Twitter will die soon.

Good platform for promoting writing a couple off hash tags in a note pad copy and paste at the end off a tweet and let the rest do the work for you

Apart from that a cease pool off a place

I think it's great. Mostly follow funny and informative accounts and avoid politics. As with all Social Media it's all about using it correctly.

Original Twitter was great. A platform full of funny women and celebrities who wanted to chat.

I had a 2nd profile I used whilst travelling on business because it was never blocked on hotel wifi and there was a good culture of sexy fun in dms and all that.

Now it’s a bit of a cesspool and all the good people have gone, including me.

I have it for nsfw vids and pics I share but I've seen a pretty grim side to it... seems like almost anything goes on there. I rarely use it but think I'll just delete it whenever I remember my login details because it's a bit fucked up imo.
