Either:
The Caravan of Love by the Housemartins, which was originally a B' side from the Isley Brothers and barely recognisable as the same song.
Or
Bohemian Rhapsody by The Muppets, originally recorded by English rock group Queen. The Muppets re-imagining of this little known classic is simply peerless.

Paul Weller’s version of Rose Royce’s ‘wishing on a star’ is a sublime cover
Even better when performed live at Ally Pally in 2005………. Was a beautiful moment in time |

"I hate all cover versions with a vengeance - sorry
When I rule the world they will be banned "
Anything that wasn't written by the artist who recorded it would effectively be a cover version. very few of the worlds greatest hits were actually written by the artist who recorded them.

Definitely up there with the greats.
In the same vein I think Elton John and David Bowie did incredible takes of "Show Must Go On" and "Under Pressure" to the point I do prefer them over Mr Mercury |

Amazing.
So whats your go 2 folks? "
I think Hendrix does a great cover of “All Along The Watchtower”
And I think Kate Bush did a great cover of “ Rocket Man” on Wigan circa 1986… but then a lot of that was to do with the fact she looks abso-Bally-lutely stunning during that performance.
Oh and Post Modern Jukebox do a fantastic cover of “All About the Base”.. see it on YouTube! Brilliant |

Marliyn Manson's versions of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and "Tainted Love" are really good.
But the definitive covers have to be Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" and Johhny Cash's "Hurt". You'd be forgiven for thinking they were the original versions, they're that good. |

"Holding out for a hero by Jennifer Saunders from Shrek 2 has to be up there "
Yes she bloody does.
I love Frou Frou's cover of it over the credits but its impossible to find it anywhere to listen to even on the big services. |

Some of my favourites:
Oleta Adams: Don't let the sun go down on me (Elton John)
Bruce Hornsby & the Range: Jack Straw (Grateful Dead)
Rod Stewart: Downtown Train (Tom Waits)
Joe Cocker: The Letter (Box Tops)
Barry Manilow: Mandy (originally "Brandy" by Scott English)
