From the land of haribos. |
I read an article about it and the reason they are doing it is due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.
Mark seed, who heads a community food project in trowbridge, cardiff, is urging for people in struggling households to be given adequate support.
He suggests that as a result of the rise of inflation that policies need to focus on people, not places. I agree with him on that.
What is your view on it, can it get any worse and could one really heat food on radiators? |

I truly don't know where things are headed. We're not well off by any means but we have (had) enough to get by without struggling. To achieve that now we have to live in a cold house or cut back on food. For people on very low incomes it must be absolutely awful |

Help people?
Like the people who held the country together these last few years?
No money left on the money tree, not when there's important stuff like £770,000 per day to store PPE unfit for purpose brokered by the like of Mone and her other half..

There's little more offensive than hugely wealthy people telling poor people to save money while graciously throwing the crumbs from their table. Anyway as long as Baroness Mone clears her name we'll all doff our caps in gratitude |

Agree..
I suppose we should see it as progress that the elite share the spoils across the demographics by giving her a peerage to enable her to share her wealth with her kids..
Nadheem zahawi who tried to claim more than a nurses staring salary to heat his stables, then accuses them of helping a mass murderer surely that has to be an example of human kindness towards animals I think .. |

That's the thing. I feel so much for all those people struggling already but as you say even those that were managing comfortably before now have to cut down on everything and even that is not enough. Means testing support might sound fair but often excludes a huge number of needy people in the middle. Cold is something I find very difficult to tolerate even though I am not into extreme heat either. It's going to be a massive problem including rise of health health issues both physical and mental. |

It will be a huge problem but unless tens of thousands live in poor conditions the wealthy will lose their position in society so it will remain a problem. We'll help each other out as much as possible hygiene banks for women who can't afford period products, food banks for people who can't afford food, baby banks for parents who can't afford to prepare for their baby, homeless shelters for people on the streets and churches that open to them only when the weather falls below a certain temperature. All provided by us. |

Of course you can't heat food on radiators, at best you'll keep already hot food warm. The person who made this claim also said people were eating dog food instead of human food, although it's actually more expensive !
No one doubts the cost of living crisis but made up scare stories help nobody. |

I imagine that people who couldn't afford to heat food in the oven would be unlikely to afford heating. Also it would be salmonellas dream environment.
I often wish we could eat dog food. How much easier to just open a packet or a tin. |

I feel sorry for the families not eligible universal credit must be so hard. I bought up kids on single income without any government help in the 2000s was so hard then but even more so now with the loss of child benefit if you pay tax and no help with fuel costs
Apparently students from lower middle class families are now the poorest in the uk
and less likely to study than those from families on benefits |

This doesn’t surprise me. Most things have doubled for everyone. Yet no help for those who aren’t entitled to benefits. (Apart from the fuel thing everyone’s getting). |

Basic physics will tell you that you can heat something up on a radiator. But it will only get as hot as the radiator that it’s sitting on. Ideally a nice aluminium tray to conduct the heat.
I might experiment later with a tin of baked beans and report my findings…

As the Sun is out today, running Oil Heaters at 500w at no cost and toasty warm.
What kind of radiator do I need - Oil or Filament?
Another 300watts and can put the Electric fire on in the fire place that no-one other than me seems to use.
I fear Oil Heaters won't get hot enough though. |

I was at a house last week, in kitchen, the 3kw electric oven door was on with the door wide open.
Someone's told her it's cheaper to heat the kitchen this way for 5 hours a day.
Then she wonders why electricity meter is consuming £70 per week. |

Could it be journalists sensationalism again??"
These scare stories can discredit real and serious issues of hardship. Makes it easier to dismiss actual problems. ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

I wouldn't completely disagree but ultimately this is about Putin & his long term plan to create world inflation so Europe & the USA allow him to rebuild the Soviet Union.
Our governments are to blame for just sitting back & allopurinol society to rely on the Ukraine & Russia. |

The ruling party is not there to challenge the status wuo but to continue, preserve and restore it, to its proper position. Mone shows this very clearly, £29 million into her family account, just from 1 of the deals she pushed through.
Millionaires in government have no interest or understanding of us.
Getting food warmer on heating is a sad way to increase food poisoning, a la party buffet food left out for too long ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

She's now using a gas heater which is a lot cheaper than electric oven for a single room. There's just no advice for these people who haven't got a clue. For what she was paying for the oven, It'd be cheaper to run the boiler and heat the house.
I use TUYA TRVs and can choose which radiators the boiler heats from phone, whether one or nine. Benefit of a cheaper heat source without heating unused rooms.
Also had benefit of 6kw of Solar here today so house is already pre heated. |

"Well the only way is for us to pay more tax as the Government do not have there own Money it's us tax payer's MONEY people get lot's of help in this country and should live to their incomes..
"
Income tax should of gone up at least 1p or even 2p in the pound as freezing tax codes is just cruel & people haven't considered how that will effect low earners in the coming years.
Then the 12p a litre duty increase in April & inflation VED increases to come too. |

But I don't expect the government to help me out, I'll work extra hours, make money elsewhere, cut back on unnecessary shite. Not wine though, that shits necessary. |

"I think that the government could do more to help as well " isn't it more prudent to rely on ones self instead of government handouts? The social aspect can only go so far. Eventually it's up to you to enact your survivability. |

My kids have just about aged out of universal credit - so no help there - but are both on a very low wage so can’t contribute towards bills.
I work full time but I’m on little more than minimum wage. We’re managing at the moment but we’ve cut back on every unnecessary expense and reduced every household bill we can. It’s food prices which are hitting us the most - the food we eat has gone up by at least a third this year - and my daughter is a celiac (gluten free food is incredibly expensive).
However - compared to some we’re well off - at least we can still afford to eat 3 meals a day - and for that I’m grateful.
Also lucky that the Santa years are over and the kids can understand that there won’t be loads of expensive presents this Christmas. |

Dangerous. The water in the rad is nowhere near hot enough to transfer enough heat to kill any bacteria. It's why you are directed to heat meals to boiling.
Can't do that on a domestic radiator.

It is awful to hear what people have been driven to due to this crisis.
Debt is the way forward now, as this present government has taken all the cash they can, they are now building a pot of debt, to see them through the out of power years.
The issue is that it is us they are putting into debt, so even when they have gone, we will still be paying them. |
