There's no escaping them; they're back in the shops again.
What supermarket brand mince pie was your favourite last year, and has a different one beaten it to the top spot this year?

"Home made ‘Incredibly easy mince pies’ on the BBC good food website. Flipping amazing. "
As long as it's only the mince pies that are incredibly easy

I bought a box of them in Sainsbury's at the weekend. Note, watch for the sell by dates folks. I only got them because they've finally got Jan '23 on it x |

Must admit, Tesco’s finest mince pies with all butter pastry cases filled with mincemeat infused with French brandy & port with a sweet dusting are somewhat delicious...! |

So, I have done extensive research and taste tests on mince pies over the years. Morrisons short crust are the best and Sainsburys are a close send, followed my Morrisons puff pastry. Pre-packaged (not from on-site bakery), m&s are very nice followed by Mr Kipling and then tesco.
Greggs are ok, but a last resort really… |

Can't beat homemade but if had to choose a supermarket one. Lidl used to do the best. The brand used to be snowy lodge but I think it's under a new brand now and they're just as good!

You had me at mince pies
I’ll take any, but my preference and favourite is always home made. There’s no brand that can make that caramelised bit on the nearly overdone crust that a home oven can produce.
And just throw those MrKipling ones in the bin. |

I usually make my own, including the mincemeat.
A friend brought me a pack of Morrisons baked in store shortcrust pastry pies and I was impressed. |

I’m a fan of Heston’s Christmas fare each year. I look forward to sampling his new creations and mourn their passing once the season has passed.
This year, his Pear and Fig Mince Pie in Triple Cheese Pastry is a little light in flavour for the filling but the pastry is delicious.
The Spiced Mince Pie with a Lemon Twist crumble is the better of the two. The spices hit just the right mulled notes and come through at the front of the tongue whilst the lemon refreshes at the back of the mouth. The crumble’s soft and buttery texture lends the perfect tone to bring the two flavours together.
They won’t be to everyone’s taste but are an interesting mix amongst the more traditional sweet mince pies.

"Christmas mince pies from the co-op In microwave for 42 seconds at 700 power, then cold co-op custard poured on top.. "
That’s some kind of kink you’ve got there, my dear fellow. Mine pies/microwave/cold custard. Quite the threesome. |
