Have not eaten out for a while now. Places which used to use, changed from pub to restaurants. I checked menu’s of each and all have same menu. Yes owned by same chain. Which to me is not good thing. |

Eating as a couple, I feel we don't get the attention 2 paying adults deserve. If your in a group or a family there's definitely more attention and respect from the waiters.
More money coming in I suppose |

"Weird ways of serving the food. If I want to eat off a slate I'll sit on the roof. "
Agree with this one. The place down the road from me serves burger and chips on this tiny chopping board... It looks a paddle for spanking people.
Because it's so small you have to super mindful of crumbs otherwise they'll get all over the table... What's wrong with a plate?! |

People who are excessively loud or bring kids and allow them to shout or even worse, run round the bloody pub.
The other is anywhere that serves half a potato, a single broccoli stem and some 'jus'. Fuck off back to the kitchen, make it a proper portion and add some gravy, as its the same as your bloody jus, just ten times as much volume, not wiped on the plate like artistic snot and it doesn't cost me an extra tenner for your pretentious poncery |

"Undercooked broccoli and carrots.
Nana, when you say "under", do you mean "properly"?
No, I mean vegetables that break your teeth when you munch into them.
"
Just, a nice bit of crunch |

Repetitive menus that never change.
Is it too much to ask for 4 menu changes a year, each one seasonally appropriate ?
I want to see some imagination, some creativity, some artistry and passion.
If I just want to eat "grub", I'll eat at home. I am coming to your establishment to hopefully be amazed and inspired, to experience something I could not easily replicate at home.
(To be fair, we have many recipe books across quite a few cultures and historical time periods).
Everywhere serves Cod N'Chips. Please, just don't. |

Screaming babies/ children running wild, it's not a bleddy nursery ffs
Poor choices on the menu, especially of puddings, so many places lack imagination when it comes to sweet options.
high prices, especially for sides which I think should be part of the dish anyways, and drinks too costly to enjoy more than one of.
poor lighting... I like to see what I'm eating.
We rarely bother. |

I think on the whole there isn't anything that I find overtly annoying. Eating out has been extremely pleasurable since the waning of lockdown. Eateries and restaurants seem to be going the extra mile to look after their guests.
The "2 hour sitting" rule in some of the more upmarket establishments is irksome. That policy should be abolished. |

Bad or indifferent service, other punters, especially those with the common attitude many have these days that I do what I like and so will my kids I'd they have any with them, refusal to adjust a particular dish to personal requirements, grabbing plates either too early or too late, automatically include the service charge even though I tip generously, lack of tablecloths and proper napkins for fine dinning, lack of knowledge on how to make some common drinks, not offering an assiette of deserts when I can't make my mind on what I like or two many good ones to choose from, artificial flowers, anything that has not been cleaned properly, overcooked vegetables, not really knowing when I say medium rare I expect it yo be just that, lack of some basic toiletries in the toilets............ |

Plus to add. If they have 5 stars or equivalent , or have some named chef. Can charge stupid prices . Plus as said small portions . This by renaming dish.
The one I am referring about. Some years ago went for meal. Had three courses. Starter was a salmon dish . About two mouthfuls . Main in plain english . Steak , chips and salad. This turned out to be a steak ? About max diameter of sixty millimetres. Seven chips ( I counted ) All same size , would call chunky chips . Plus salad. This was a mixture of four types of lettuce , raw onion and radish . All this could have been put on a tea plate with plenty of room . Sweet was a chocolate brownie with sauce. Again about fifty millimetre square . Yes was nice. But not filling for price. |

What annoys me is restauranteur's who expect you to pay extra to meet their wage bill. There is no need to tip in the UK what so ever. If you do want to, make sure your contract is directly between you and your server. Never, ever feel obligated to tip when presented with the bill. |

I agree partly. The only thing is what is termed background staff. Junior cook staff etc . They do not get share of tips, but contributed to your meal? |

Waiters that hover over the table when I’m eating.
Tables that are too close together, which makes me very uncomfortable.
People using their mobiles - I really doubt that there is anything that important that they need to keep checking their phone - or talking on it during a meal. |

I only leave tips when I receive table service (so if its a buffet style arrangement, I won't) and if I do, its only because the waiter/waitress has gone above and beyond what I would expect them to do. I object to the automatic 'service charge'. |

There's a restaurant near me that for some reason has absolutely terrible acoustics.
The food is fabulous and the service great, the acoustics are terrible and it literally sounds like every single person in the restaurant is shouting as loud as they can at teach other, it is really annoying. |

The mountain of peas that inevitably comes with a meal with chips. Rock hard and tasteless little buggers that shoot off your plate ending up in your lap, on the table or floor. I try to order without. Unless it's mushy peas. They can stay. |

Having to sit in the middle of the restaurant.
Prefer to sit on the edges as there is less "traffic".
Also allows me to see the food that others have ordered and may help me decide what I want |

The last people you want to be rude or nasty to are the ones who cook and serve your food or pour your drinks. Who's to say that they haven't spat in your food, beer, alcohol or tea, or violated it in perhaps the most unpleasant way possible, before it's served up to you?
When I was a naive 16-year old in my first office job, I was told to make their tea/coffee, and go to the shops for them to buy them their morning rolls. They were a rude, nasty and sometimes racist bunch of people. If one of those people had upset or offended me the day before, I would leave a small gob deposit in their rolls or tea before handing it to them. Service with a smile....
Rude to restaurant and pub staff? You deserve it.

I'm not suprised they give you dirty looks. If a baby starts crying you should take it outside immediately |

I think most people would be OK with that as long as parents attend to the crying child and walk off somewhere to settle the child rather than just ignore as many unfortunately do and also let the rest ran amok around the place. Common sense always should prevail but sadly doesn't. |

I was in a cafe catching up with a friend, and next to us there was an older lady basically shouting at one of the waiters that the coffee wasn’t hot enough…and I was reminded why I didn’t last very long working in hospitality. |

Baby starts and we instantly try to calm him down. Why should we have to take a child outside in the cold just so the people next to us don't have to hear our 8 month old cry. When THEY CHOSE to sit next to us! They were happily smiling at the baby when he wasn't crying. |

I remember my late mother telling me that her father had warned her, when she first went out for a meal with my dad (when they were dating), to watch out for how he treats/speaks to the waiting staff, "Because that is how they will treat you, eventually".
They remained married for 45 years. |

I love seeing families out in "proper" restaurants with their children - nothing like seeing folk avoiding fast food chains and hearing laughter, seeing joy (even when combined with crying, shouting and running around on occasion) - living life to the full.
As a mother of a special needs child, I rarely go out with mine - it's too stressful for all involved and I feel envious of those who manage to bring their family out for a treat, while avoiding the death stare of other judgemental patrons who (often) don't have a f**king clue what goes on behind closed doors at home.

"I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw kids running wild in a restaurant or pub.

Nor me.
There's one place near here that is very family targeted, I don't eat there because the food and service are crap but if I did I wouldn't complain about kids there, it's the target demographic
I can't ever recall it being an issue in the places we do eat though! |

The 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge. I tip if the service has been good and ALWAYS in cash. Want to know that the staff get it and not the restaurant owners. |

Everything which is one of the reasons sropp visiting restaurants
Long time to someone to come over to let you order
Long time for food or drinks to arrive
Long time to order bill and pay
Being sat near to people
Loud people
High prices for such a small amount of food or drink.

Vegetarian option because too often it's either pasta in a tomato sauce or mushroom risotto, so exciting!!!.) Even saw one of them on a Christmas Day menu.
People on other tables talking loudly.
Music so loud that no-one can hear anything else and you just hope the waiter got your order right.
Children running around unless it's a place designed for children and you're there cos they won't let them in on their own. |
