"Is it PM or DM when you message someone is there a difference"
Yes. One is private and can’t be read by anyone else. Encryption maybe?
I often wondered this on here. I hope the mods could clear this up.
Are direct messages private? |

I only have the one inbox feed, nothing distinguishes messages as PM or DM.
Only see PM specifically detailed the forum tiles. Where do you see DM designated differently? |

And I reckon the only reason 'private' is labelled is as a distinction of it versus a post to the public forum rather than implying any degree of encryption |

Well, I believe the youth of today refer to sliding into one's DM's.
Now, I must confess, this doesn't mean procuring someone else's shoes. That was my initial mistake, don't let it become yours too.
I have chosen to use DM's in an effort to appear, hip, and trendy. Later, I shall purchase a monster revitalisation beverage, and refer to someone that is not of blood lineage as "bruv".
Most lovely.

They're two different terms for the same thing.
If the user is old enough to have become familiar with them through forums, they'll refer to them as "PMs", for "private messages".
If the user is young enough that they first encountered them through Twitter, they'll refer to them as "DMs", for "direct messages".
You'll notice that Fab has a "Message privately" button, which suggests to me the context-correct terminology on here would be "PM". |
