At least its not something each individual will do regularly, there's only so many layers of skin you can lose each time.

Not where we seem to be...

The two Herbert's that have climbed the Dartford bridge, leave them up there........

Just don't divert the traffic, let it flow like normal.

They'll come down eventually, then arrest them.

They've carried out their protest.

No one's been inconvenienced.

They law is upheld when they come down.

Simple.

I was in London a couple of Saturdays ago and they glued themselves to the A501 outside Madame Tussaud’s. There were huge delays and the police diverted all vehicles pushing them in to the ULEZ and congestion charge area which we had to pay.

So why drive that day? Well there was a train strike and I needed to attend hospital for a scan despite it being Saturday.

My point is every car in both directions had to pay this fee. For me this should be revoked

I agree they should be left alone. They shouldn’t be attacked or assaulted by random people thinking they’re the law.

And I hope people start to care about the climate crisis enough to put pressure on government to do more. Whether through protest or other.

Whilst I somewhat agree I hope it’s not a member of your family that needs an ambulance or a fire engine as nothing is allowed past and every road around the area becomes gridlocked

I'm glad that people are dragging them off the roads. It's ridiculous. They don't give a crap about whatever they are allegedly protesting against. They just want to cause issues.

Emily Dickinson threw herself in front of the king’s horse to highlight women’s suffrage. It has become one of the most memorable and impactful acts of protest ever. She was killed outright and I suppose a lot of people would consider her stupid…. I doubt many people would consider what she was fighting for as stupid!

Just saying

I say this knowing that it could be me that’s inconvenienced. It’s a cause I support. The climate emergency is extremely worrying. And I worry about my daughter and her generation and their kids.

I don’t drive and have been seriously inconvenienced by train strikes that have prevented me from or made it far more difficult to make my appointments. But more power to them.

"

Tom's Law wish somebody would glue a few police officers to walls "

If they did,the police would release a statement claiming 250 brave boys in blue had been battered to death, the press would repeat it unquestioningly, and Braverman would call for the return of the death penalty for those who kill police officers.

Worried about being outflanked on law and order, Starmer would rush out a statement saying yhat the Tories were too soft on crime, and that under Labour, 'looking at a policemen funny' would attract a minimum sentence of hanging, drawing, and quartering.

Here and elsewhere, punters would be frothing at the mouth, calling for vigilante action against anyone with a nose-stud or blue hair.

Meanwhile, a small leftist podcast would put in an FOI on what rapidly became known as 'The Copper Slaughter', asking for the actual breakdown of police affected. Weeks later, it would turn out that no policemen had died, but one had had to wash his hair after getting Pritt-Stik in it whilst helping his six year old with her homework. This fact would be published quietly on page 37 of The Guardian, and no-one would change their minds on the topic, ever.

God, this country.

Tom's Law wish somebody would glue a few police officers to walls

That’s a remarkably grim perspective.

My daughter will inherit a world that’s already looking much harsher & much depleted.

I want to do the most I can to halt that & salute those trying to raise awareness.

Protests are a bugger. That’s the point. I’m sure Dr King’s marches blocked the roads for many commuters, but history doesn’t really regard those as the most important perspectives.

She was killed outright and I suppose a lot of people would consider her stupid…. I doubt many people would consider what she was fighting for as stupid!

Everyone who is against these protests would have hated Emily Pankhurst and everything the Suffragettes stood for. They’ve actually said that they know it’s unrealistic to halt. They’re asking for a stop to all NEW licensing and production of oil? And haven’t the government committed to more oil for the next decade at least? Which takes us to 2030 and at this rate warming will be at like 2degreesC?

Like most people they are simply reactionary, and ‘contribute’ to society by complaining from a position of comfort while they enjoy rights and freedoms others fought for and broke the law to procure for them."

We would suggest that everyone checks where their "Rights" come from and how they came about and how they were achieved and despite the percieved wisdom that the poor and oppressed and poverty stricken and mostly devoid of any and all basic human rights ( we all now take full advantage of including the NHS) walked up to various doors belonging to the ruling elites rather larger manor houses etc etc and asked them for say weekends off and higher wages and of course the ruling elite replied of course you can have all that and even more and ...

In April they asked for no new licensing of oil and gas and like last month the government announced new licensing of oil and gas?

Come on, man. Do you really care that much about a painting which was fine (as was heard in court apparently) or a statue which is also fine? They’ve started a conversation. Can we not educate ourselves and actually support their cause and encourage OUR government to do its bit for the sake of its people?

The science says that we have to reduce emissions by 2030. The UK Government haven’t taken the steps to make that happen. They’re, committed to expanding production of oil and gas which, imo, and in the opinion of some experts, is not sensible. We have a cheek to call out any other country if our own government shows a lack of commitment to the cause too. This is the responsibility imo of global powers and that includes us.

So why drive that day? Well there was a train strike and I needed to attend hospital for a scan despite it being Saturday.

My point is every car in both directions had to pay this fee. For me this should be revoked "

"Emily Dickinson threw herself in front of the king’s horse to highlight women’s suffrage. It has become one of the most memorable and impactful acts of protest ever. She was killed outright and I suppose a lot of people would consider her stupid…. I doubt many people would consider what she was fighting for as stupid!

Just saying "

If the same rules and standards applied now, as they did for Emily Dickinson, how many of these protestors would still protest? When Emily Dickinson made her protest, it would have been in full knowledge that it would probably end in injury, death or imprisonment. The protestors now know that society will protect them at the cost of others rights and liberties.

There's no doubt that the cause being highlighted is valid, but I'd question how likely blocking a motorway or gridlocking London is to catalyse change. Both things that are actually causing more harm to the environment than no protest!

I cannot believe people are really in this thread wishing these guys dead when all they want is for government and big corporations to take better care of our already dying planet. I’m so worried for my daughters generation and her children, if she decides to have them.

It really stinks of “I won’t be around so I don’t care in here” - that’s all that’s wrong with society today. Every one is just out for themselves. No one cares about the damage or the bigger picture. Future generations to come. It’s just heartbreaking really. But I’m not surprised. The people of this country have always been a selfish bunch only out for themselves.

I support their right to protest. Absolutely.

I don't support them breaking the law to do it.

Obstructing the highway, pouring a bucket of shit over a statue, climbing on top of tube trains are offences.

I don't support people being assaulted.

Everyone loves the police so much, shouldn’t we be calling them to deal with it rather than taking the law into our own hands?

I know that you have said you don’t support them being assaulted I’m just venting here because they are being assaulted and people are lauding it

I totally agree, why the feck the police aren't dealing with it is beyond me.

I’m very serious. It’s a pathetic and baseless straw man argument. And I’m tired of hearing it. So it’ll be met with equal stupidity. Where was this energy for the person above saying they hoped the protestors would die?"

That comment was also wrong

"It’s always the same argument about them stopping ambulances and I’m sorry but it’s of little consequence when the number of people the died in the summer due to heat related illness was the highest ever record.

I think you’ll find that it has a consequence for the occupant of the ambulance.

Tough luck.

Following your path of reasoning then, I assume you would find it perfectly acceptable to just drive over someone glueing themselves to the road, because it would just be ‘tough luck’. "

The argument you’ve made here is so baseless and so far from the original point that it’s actually painful to read. Goodness gracious me. Just admit you don’t care about the planet or the future generations that will inhabit it. It’s easier than the mental gymnastics you’re trying to do to come up with these irrelevant sound bites.

You think the possibility of someone not making it to hospital in time is just ‘tough luck’ , I think that says everything anyone needs to know about you.

There, I disagree. More society. Fewer sociopaths.

Climate change is killing many 1,000s a year. Literally no-one has died because of these hypothetical situations of yours.

No I met your stupid comment with more stupidity. You see how that works? Because there hasn’t been a single report of that happening. No one has even suffered anything life changing due to ambulances being held up. If any ambulances have actually been held up at all. It’s all what ifs. But the planet is dying and we know what those consequences are going to look like. It’s just a baseless argument people like you like to make because you heard it from somewhere else and thought it sounded snappy and clever. It doesn’t. For crying out loud, just try having a single independent thought. You might feel better for it.

I’m yet to read of many people that have died because of this either but if someone was to it would undoubtedly be sad but imo it still wouldn’t make their action less important or their methods completely wrong. As someone said above, I’m sure the march on Washington or many other forms of direct action have has similar consequences but ultimately we’re trying to make the world a safer place for future generations.

I feel just fine thanks

You obviously chose not to read the word possibility in my post.

No one has been reported dying…….. yet.

For me , the fact that people are deliberately doing something that makes it a possibility is not acceptable, for any cause.

You on the other hand think it just ‘tough luck’

Tom, why does Greta and her ilk never go and protest in China and India? I don’t get it.. China are opening LOADS of new coal powered power stations, while we’re aiming for net zero by 2030, just 8 years away.

You can’t turn off fossil fuels overnight. 8 years is pretty ambitious tbf.

But yeah. Glue yourself to the road in Stratford or Wednesbury. That’ll solve the issue.

from my perspective being in the states. You have left people screaming about global warming. Then turn around and scream it's the governments fault for the winter gas shortage. No amount of glue going to stop people from freezing.

Unless it's used to stick up some insulation.

Come to think of it wasn't that one of the suggestions by recent protestors?

Actually China has 300+ PHDs and thousands of engineers working round the clock to develop LFTR reactors than the Americans invented in the 60s but axed so that Nixon could send jobs the California and get votes. If they commercialise it, you'll be licensing your carbon free future from them.

You can’t be seriously asking why British climate activists are calling out the British government and not someone else’s? What is the point of our government if not to protect us?

I said already, many of these activists have said they’re not asking for things to be turned off tomorrow but they’re asking for us to stop expansion of oil and gas production. The BRITISH government announced expansion like last month.

For a country so small, it’s also extremely alarming how much we emit already. Other countries that emit similar amounts are much bigger I am pretty sure.

Gluing yourself to the road forces people to listen. It’s also direct action. It’s disruptive. Like I said, over 50 million people watched the soup video. Sounds like they’re doing more than a peaceful march that literally nobody cares about would achieve.

"i honestly think we are a dying planet, no we havent helped thats for sure,, look out there planets have died,"

Mmmm and what planet are you comparing us too? Definitely non in our solar system is capable of supporting life..... Its only the lunatics spouting "ooh we are all going to die in 10 minutes if we don't stop co2"

At 150ppm plants die. (no food no oxygen we die too)

Co2 is a fertiliser more co2 =greener planet.

Look back at the records of atmospheric co2 and there is NO coralation between co2 and temperature - the sun and water vapour drives temperature.

Try reading Dr Patrick Moore (Co founder of Green peace) Fake invisible catastrophes and other threats of doom.

It's been established that Russia has funded anti nuclear and anti fracking activity. No doubt China has a hand in many of the protests against UK energy independence.
