Hardly a great actor, practically played the same type of role in the majority of his films. Hard man with an ape, cop or cowboy. There are exceptions like Bridges of Madison County or Play Misty for Me, but he didn’t really have too much range.
He’s a lot better as a Director and before the criticism of his acting talents, he does a great job at playing the roles he’s comfortable playing, my personal favourite being Kelly’s Hero’s. But he’s not up there with the greatest actors. |
