In your city? Do you have all the major department stores and outlets? Do you have a good mix of local / indie shops for something different or unconventional?
I'm in Liverpool for the next few days and think it's very good. In one hour I actually found a sweater I liked and a pair of shoes that had the right style and colour I'd searched for months. And yes, I'm a picky bastard and a nightmare to shop with  |

Shopping in Hastings is pretty good. Old Town has a few independent clothes shops (I'm trying to avoid the word quirky, I dislike it  ) and there are a few Asian and eastern European supermarkets. Marks and Spencers and Primark are the only two big retailers I can think of off hand |

The town I live in is pretty shit, in fact if it wasn't for the oxfam bookshop I'd likely never venture in to the town centre. There are a few decent places to eat but almost no shops now. |

Possibly. I haven't been shopping there for years. Brighton has really gone downhill apparently but it's 7 years since I was last there for retail purposes. |

Nottingham is pretty rubbish these days, there’s millionaires row with flannels, all saints, paul smith , boss, and a few others but not much indie . Liverpool is good last time I was there I bought lots, it also has the biggest vintage shop in the uk  . |

Poor Lily for having to put up with you and shopping.
I love Liverpool. It's non-existent in this town. Absolutely zilch. Visit Penhaligon's while you're there and get a silk scarf with the eau de parfum liberally sprinkled on. So lovely even now. |

Last I was in Brighton was 2015. It was decent, but even then I was shocked at the amount of people sleeping rough in that city |

Norwich has the usual M&S, John Lewis and some of the other bigger stores but it also has a good selection of unique and individual shops/boutiques. It’s a joy to shop here
There are no retail shopping parks (except DIY) anywhere in Norfolk |

Last I was in Brighton was 2015. It was decent, but even then I was shocked at the amount of people sleeping rough in that city "

I don't actually tend to shop where I live. I live in London and everywhere is just always farting so I tend to coincide my shopping in the trips to Southampton. I love shopping in Southampton as it has everything I need and the city centre and shopping centre is laid out well.
If I have to go shopping I use my local high street which isn't too bad but doesn't have many shops Or if absolutely necessary Westfield Stratford. |

I think I'm extremely 'retail endowed'. I'm not far from several John Lewis department stores, Selfridges, a retail park next to the Thames, 20 mins in the car to Piccadilly / King's Road / Westfield (yuk!)... |

If you know roughly what you're looking for it's easier. There are markets, malls and high streets. I choose where to shop by what I fancy having for lunch or dinner.

Take it in small chunks.....Most newcomers who don't have Long term London friends try to do too much in London and then get overwhelmed.
I had a friend who hated London come down and I only took him in a circular walk from Victoria coach station up the Kings road to the Saatchi Gallery and round to Battersea park and back to Victoria.
I was born in London but moved away and then back again when I was 18. I had long-term London friends of my mom and schoolmates taking me around bit by bit. Wembley Market one week. Brent Cross another week. Harlesden market. Finsbury park, Peckham, Portobello, Roman Road, Oxford circus. Brixton. Carnaby, Covent Garden, Do it one a day or half day. If you have a day off during the week better than the weekend to be honest.
I've lived in London 12 years and I still haven't done it all for example I've never been to Billingsgate or New Covent Garden Market. I haven't been to the new O2 outlet. |

Newcastle town center is great for shopping whatever it is so much to offer Eldon Square as well all within walking distance. Then obviously their is the metro center Uk, largest shopping center whether it's clothes or food ect |

Chester used to be a great little city for shops but so much has closed now. We don’t even have a department store

I think, from a shopping perspective, it's worth treating London as a series of smaller towns, Brixton is very different to Islington and both are very different to Camden.
I also i really like the O2 outlet, thst never feels crowded and lots of places to grab food or a drink |

In fact, for the sake of variety, I occasionally venture out to Bicester Village in Oxfordshire. If I need an outlet to vent my retail frustrations Bicester' seems to suffice. |

"Norwich has the usual M&S, John Lewis and some of the other bigger stores but it also has a good selection of unique and individual shops/boutiques. It’s a joy to shop here

Well we have to get in a car and travel miles to get anywhere with any half decent shops. The metro centre which is about a good hour away used to have a good choice but haven't been there for a few years. Do online shopping these days. |

I love my little town of Oswestry is full of quirky little independent gift shops, coffee shops and quirky buildings. we don't have big name stores, not worthy of a Primark even. We do have little boutiques and the usual second hand shops, Greggs, Costa, Subway....But we also have lots of little independent cafes and takeaways. A vegan cafe which is lovely
It has a lot of character and history

Do you not sometimes think there's too much choice and it's overwhelming? I'm fairly new to London but can't stand shopping here. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Take it in small chunks.....Most newcomers who don't have Long term London friends try to do too much in London and then get overwhelmed.
I had a friend who hated London come down and I only took him in a circular walk from Victoria coach station up the Kings road to the Saatchi Gallery and round to Battersea park and back to Victoria.
I was born in London but moved away and then back again when I was 18. I had long-term London friends of my mom and schoolmates taking me around bit by bit. Wembley Market one week. Brent Cross another week. Harlesden market. Finsbury park, Peckham, Portobello, Roman Road, Oxford circus. Brixton. Carnaby, Covent Garden, Do it one a day or half day. If you have a day off during the week better than the weekend to be honest.
I've lived in London 12 years and I still haven't done it all for example I've never been to Billingsgate or New Covent Garden Market. I haven't been to the new O2 outlet.

Definitely avoid shopping on a weekend if you hate crowds. If you absolutely have to go on the weekend go early in the morning or an hour or two before the closing of stores. Personally, even when I lived in Leicester, I found going to the market, shops and shopping centre early in the morning before work or just before closing time after work much more manageable. Now I work the late shift on weekends, all my in-store shopping is done on weekdays. |

I mean....the last non-city I went to had a fish and chip shop, a post office and a miscellaneous seaside shop. The only shoes available were flip flops and flippers. I had to get on a bus for an hour and a half to Penzance. Lol! I never figured out where the supermarket was on my West Cornish adventure. I just ate cornish tea, fish and chips, a burger, scallops and a Sunday roast. |

Derby isn't all that great, most of the high street shops are closed and even the stores in the Derbion shopping centre either aren't great or closed. It's pretty sad to be honest as I think it could do with a bit of a perk up. |

I think it’s just called the biggest vintage shop in the uk, it’s in the main bit where the other shops and all the people are, can’t miss it …..there’s also a cool Nepalese shop has the softest cashmere blankets , you’ll just want to stay there all day stroking them |

It was Nottingham who introduced me to John Lewis. The Lace Market/Hockley/Sneinton has all manner of quirky and ethnic shops which I really liked. Being Afro-Caribbean, I could still go to the market in Victoria Centre and get all of my treats. |

I live 10 minutes walk from a popular outlet centre. Lots of designer brand bargains and within a 30 mile radius several other major retail centres. All totally wasted on me.. |

I work in Newcastle City centre and also have the metrocentre about 20 mins drive so as high street stores go we do ok. It would be nice to see more independent stores about.
Liverpool, Bristol and Bath are all on my to do list for weekends away.
