"Question: why do people fly all the way to Mexico when it’s just like Spain only further away? "
Having visited both........it's really not.
There's a distinct lack of Aztec ruins on the Costa del Sol and the weather is different.

"because I much prefer Latin America than a European country...
with much more to see and experience..."
Never been to Mexico but work in LATAM occasionally, mostly Brasil, Peru & Colombia it’s a completely different culture to Spain & Portugal. More influenced by America than Europe |

"Why go to Spain when there's a tapas bar right around the corner?
Why go to the tapas bar around the corner when you can eat chorizo sausage in a tomato sauce at home?"
Why have chorizo in tomato sauce when you can have a hot dog with ketchup? |

Maybe don't go to Mexico during rainy season and you will not need to complain about thunderstorms.
Also, we've been on the same beach as you guys since we arrived on Tuesday and it only rained twice during the day for about 10 minutes so not sure what your issue is

Well we arrived Saturday! Good point though about the season: only time the whole family could come together…plus my birthday! Yippee. I’m not complaining by the way, it’s just no different to Spain. Is the 12 hour travelling worth it? |

"Currently in Mexico and it is indeed bugger all like Spain bar the language."
Apart from the food, the weather (mostly) the shows, the entertainment, the games, if you go all inclusive in chain of hotels, nah….no different |

Happy Birthday
It is definitely worth it for us as the hospitality is just on another level (our flight was 9.5 hours though).
I don't know where you're staying, but the waiters in our hotel are bringing us new drinks before we even finish our old ones and our concierge offered to buy Lorenzo a pair of long trousers in town on his way home from work because it's much cheaper than the hotel shops and you can't dine in their restaurants in shorts.
We met some people from Lanzarote at the pool today and even they said that there is no way you would get this level of service in Spain so I will happily spend more time on a plane to be treated like royalty.

That's the issue. If you go all inclusive and spend your time anywhere with provided entertainment it's pretty much all the same probably world wide. It's a tried and successful format and if you want to look for a different experience you probably would be better not staying in a hotel.
If you look at Spain it's so diverse a country. You've got the touristy beaches on the Med, the dry central plains, the city's, the Pyrenean mountains and the lush and green north. It isn't the same experience even in that one country, just like the beaches in Devon are not the same as the mountains in the Lakes.

Donde esta la all night bar???
Why try Spanish when you have to finish in English?? Does Google translate not work In Mexico??
Also Mexican Spanish is not the same. Its like Scottish dialect is to proper English. |

"Destination holiday. When I was still married, we had a great holiday in Acapulco. Casita with privacy pool, overlooking the bay. Naked swimming, sunbathing and naughty fun in a lovely setting."
Think that was not a package deal eh? |

I guess this reflects on how yiu holiday and an assumption everyone else does the same.
Maybe if you just go to an all inclusive resort and sit by the pool you have a point?
