Depends on the circumstance to what I think, we had a ‘’couple’’ messaging last week then all of a sudden they deleted our message and hid their profile which makes me think one half of the couple was clueless to what the other was trying to arrange. |

"I just assume they are taking sometime out"
Yeah me too. I hide mine when I’m not looking to interact with anyone directly.
I posted on a thread earlier and a guy asked me what chance people have with me with a hidden profile. I said that’s the point, they don’t at the moment. I thought it was fairly standard practice to hide your profile if you’re not interested in chatting, but it made me wonder. |

"What does it mean to you, given that you’ve hidden yours?
People hide for all sorts of reasons. "
I’m not looking to interact with anyone directly, so I suppose I feel hiding my profile is a bit like closing my shutter. |

It does doesn’t it, to be honest it’s not often I look to see if profiles are hidden or not, usually only if someone new messages and I think oh I’ll take a look at them before replying but on this occasion I was thinking why have they suddenly gone quiet and had my Miss Marple head on, lets just say they are now on our not to be trusted list |

Maybe, just maybe, that's why she asked...

Maybe, just maybe, it means they're sick of the idiots on here. |

To be honest I've always thought that as soon as people choose to hide their profile there should be an automatic restriction on their use of the forums also.
Regardless of the reasons for hiding, too many people use that option to toss grenades into threads and start arguments.
It leaves for an uneven playing field as it removes much of the context as those who don't know the poster or are familiar with their profiles could easily misconstrue anything they say.
If someone says something on here that is open to interpretation the first thing most do is to look at that profile to better understand the point but if that profile is hidden there is less chance of a balanced response. |

I’d never really thought of it like that.
I always see the forum and the rest of Fab as 2 separate spaces. I often don’t want to be bothered in my inbox if messages have got too much of if I feel like I don’t want people looking at my pics so when I hide profile it’s to switch that side of Fab off for me. Chatting in the forum is, for me, unrelated to my profile which is designed to attract people, but my interaction in the forum isnt. |

That's understandable but for many including myself the forums are the only part of the site we use and all engagement and interaction is through the forums.
I accept that it's often necessary to hide a profile. The only time I've done it was on a previous profile when I wasn't on for a year.
All the threads complaining about blank profiles not making an effort and how people can't take blank avatars seriously if they make particular points on here never seem to take into account that those who has chosen to hide their profiles look exactly the same to people who don't know them and yet we are expected to give their opinions greater validity than those offered by a blank profile. |

Hmm, I think a hidden profile and an open, yet blank profile are different.
In the forum I give equal respect to everyone, a hidden or blank profile wouldn’t make any difference to how I viewed their comment. But I think that’s because of how I see the 2 sides of the site.
I don’t try to interact with people outside the forum when my profile is hidden. When I’m on display my profile is full of pics and a long bio. |

The words that people use are what I judge them on. We can choose what validity we give to other peoples' opinions. |
