Does the starter of a thread have a fabligation to keep it running?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *iddlesticks OP   Man  over a year ago

My nan’s spare room.

I don’t know why I converged fab and obligation but that’s me, as whacky as Timmy Mallet after three packets of skittles and a bottle of Coca Cola.

Other high sugar fizzy drinks are available.

Anyway, what do you think, should the OP have some degree of ownership or should it hopefully flow as people post.

Personally I prefer when all contributors are happy to to and fro with each other.

If I’ve asked a question, I’ll try to respond to some of the answers.

Other times I’ll drop the bomb and run.

All depends how much spare time I’ve got to participate.

Very similar to me.

I try to respond to people then invariably miss somebody out and that’s not nice for them, albeit totally accidental.

Sometimes it's just used as a way to bump it to the top if it's getting no response. Sometimes people ask questions or make comments which the Op responds to. To read the exchange is quite entertaining sometimes.

Depends on how much time and energy I have. I have done threads and replied to everyone before, and it's exhausting, but can be fun. Sometimes I'll just reply to a few interesting comments. Otherwise a bump now and then to keep it in track

Just do a Tom and throw a grenade and run. Then give it a shameless bump with a deliberately inflammatory comment. Say what you want about him but he knows how to get a thread to 175.

I don’t know. Sometimes my threads go off track and I leave them to it.

Mostly as if people are participating in your thread, you should do so too but without overdoing it.

Not keen on threads that OP puts it out there and then disappears, especially if it's controversial subject aimed at causing a bit of friction.

I also abandon my own threads if they get off the point by certain people or high jacked by those arrogant enough to believe that their opinion is the only one that matters

I think the OP has to stick with it.

They must respond to every post, anything less is just being tardy.

They must keep the thread on topic and they must sort out any arguments and poor behaviour.

They must be the last person to post on the thread, with a thank you, to all those who have participated.

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

Within 3 posts, the comments generally have nothing to do with the original post, the predictable profiles will have arrived and the OP will be getting pulled apart

For my part, it's creating a subject that people comment on, regardless of content...participation is the whole point, not who's right or wrong...thats just an argument. Can't be bottom argue with strangers on the Internet.

When I start threads I do enjoy interacting with the people that have posted but I know that is not necessary for a lot of thread topics.

I don't start threads that require a lot of input from me beyond the original post. Probably why 99% of them die after a handful of comments.

Kiss, fuck threads are always hilarious when the op has to reply to every comment and it then becomes all about them.

From my experience if I feel impassioned about the subject-matter of my thread, then yes, I like to engage with some of those responses and subsequently 'bump' that thread and keep it alive. I do that in a measured and not-so-blatant way.

If there is no further traction then I just assume it's finally run its course. I'm not looking to hit the magic 176 posts mark.

My threads are unconventional and often fall down the rankings, superseded by the voluminous "Rate my Cock", "Fuck, Pass, Piss, or Blow", "Toenail Tuesday" or similar threads. And that's totally fine. I'll make a judgement call on whether I wish to rejuvenate my thread for the sake of variety.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I like to reply to everyone that takes the time to reply to my OP. If people are interacting with each other on the thread then I'll leave them to it, but having often been the person who posts and feels ignored (on occasion, normally I'm not that fussed) I don't want to make anyone feel like that, or feel like they aren't seen.

Plus I'm usually demanding photos, and it's only polite to thank everyone who humours my whims
