Just seen someone on the forums ask what's the worst TV programme. It got me thinking, what with the end of Better Call Saul and the beginning of the new Game of Thrones series. What would people say is the greatest TV programme ever? Doesn't have to be a serious drama, it could be a comedy, a mini series, a one off special, or something else.
Mine has to be The Sopranos, then The Wire. |

So many to list! I really couldn’t narrow it down to one.
The X-Files,
Pride And Prejudice,
Star Trek: TNG and DS9
This Is Us
Classic Dr Who (especially the Troughton, Pertwee and Tom Baker years)
Just a few off the top of my head.

I couldn't say greatest. Because it changes with mood but some of my top ones.
Only Fools and horses,
Battlestar Galactica remake,
Babylon 5,
Black Adder,
DS9,
MASH......
I feel like there are so many ones worthy of being added to it so I will stop there. |

BBC’s adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley’s People with Alec Guinness .
The best thing I have ever seen on TV
I cannot imagine anything will ever be made that is better |

For me it’s between The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad and The Shield |

Greatest TV program ever.. hmm, I think Breaking Bad is a tough one to beat. I absolutely LOVE Scrubs aswell, I thought it was genius in the way it was written. |

I’m a huge friends and charmed fan so they’re always on my list.
But for slightly more serious fare I would say :
Pride and prejudice - the 90’s Colin firth adaptation not just because of Colin firth and of course Jennifer ehle (though they certainly help! ) but because it is a pretty faithful adaptation of the book and the casting of the rest of the characters was pretty good too.
Top of the lake - 1st series is the best.
I just LOVE Jane campions work anyway plus elisabeth moss is incredible AND holly hunter is in it too.
This is us - coming from a similar family background I find it movingly relatable, if a little schmaltzy at times. |

Edge of Darkness, everything from the music, story and acting was perfect.
Totally understand the other suggestions from previous comments. But this TV Programme had me totally transfixed the first time I started to understand it. Not the first time I saw it, I was too young and it went over my head a bit. But when I rewatched it a few years later I gradually understood what a great programme I was watching. |

Not long afterwards she met and married Val Kilmer.I also had (still do) a crush on her as well.
It originally aired on BBC1 I have it on DVD at home, Prime has I to buy at £12.99 (the US remade it as a film with Mel Gibson, obviously I think it’s rubbish) or rent at £2.49 per episode, there’s only six episodes. I’ve never seen it on any other platforms to be honest.

As a bit of an aside, do you have to have seen Breaking Bad, to be able to watch Better Call Saul? |

Top of the Pops with Jimmy Savile. I always looked forward to Jimmy press ting the show because he was so entertaining.
What was revealed after his death, but was an open secret in the BBC and elsewhere, has cast a shadow over his previous public image.
He was an actor, par excellence; an expert publicist, expert manipulator, etc.
What a guy. What a creep! |

Game of Thrones is my fave but I do love fantasy. I was disappointed by the final few seasons as it felt rushed, but other than that no show has made me feel that way. I was always so hyped up to watch new episodes. I still get excited now when rewatching.
I'd also highly rate Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Lost and The Walking Dead (earlier seasons), The Office US for a comedy series. Ooh and Peaky Blinders. |

"Red dwarf
I used to love Red Dwarf. Moonlighting too."
Red Dwarf is one if those rare shows that holds up and is as funny now as it was decades ago.
Guess this is how my parents felt when talking about faulty towers lol. |

Just watched the last ever episode of Better Call Saul last night, it’s a slow burn but worth sticking with.
Superb acting by Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seahorn. It’s up there in my top 3.
Breaking Bad
Better call Saul
The Sopranos

The most shocking program that has ever been shown on tv, possibly qualifying as the greatest was the documentary about the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia that killed, by force of nature, at least 300,000 people and injured an incalculable number.
It was a phenomenal expose of the colossal power within the tectonic plates upon which we dwell on this fragile Earth.
A truly humbling and shocking broadcast! |
