In broad daylight...

I find it interesting that when a crime happens during the day it is often emphasised " I can't believe this happened in broad daylight" I've never really understood that because does that mean it's less shocking if it had been in the evening or at night? Why do we see night time as more dangerous? From the little research I've done most crimes happen during daylight hours.

I believe it to be based upon the common misconception that the most heinous of crimes are committed by those who would seek to use darkness as a cover for their actions, which as you said, is entirely erroneous, as statistics overtly demonstrate.

Agreed. I can't help but think of several cases that have mainly involved women being attacked late at night. Some have said something along the lines of "What was she doing out alone at that time of night" People have never said that to someone walking around at 3 PM. It almost seems like a way to justify something happening or that somehow it is the victim's fault.
