Why do people on here refer to sex as 'fun' can't we just call it what it is, sex. Surely it shouldn't be a difficult word to use?
Gives me the ick

But it's not always the specific act of sex is it.
Many many people on here do all kinds of various sexual activities that don't involve the act of sex itself. |

Maybe this is the reason I don't get many replies... My messages don't read like that of a dandy cad.

Gosh, so true. I can’t stand the omnipresent “fun”, gives me the ick too! |

I get that but the word sex can cover a spectrum, if detail is really needed then it can be given . |

What do you call the bits in between?
Is sex just penetrative or does it cover any form of genital activity?
Why can’t sex be “fun” if you have fun doing it?
Why can’t it be “play” if you are playful when doing it?
Using the word sex would be a misnomer for me as there are so many other things we do outside the envelope of genitals touching. |

Because there's more to sex than sex, the whole experience should be fun. It depends on your version of fun too I suppose |

I had a "fun couple looking for fun" that kept messaging me with one word;
"fun"
I'll bring the Pictionary shall I?
But yes, I've always found it a bit odd that a community that prides itself on liberation and openness can't say 'sex'.
Instead we get nawty fun, playing etc |

"Also I’d remove the comment in your profile about having fun, especially if it gives you the ick. "
Fun doesn't have to be just bumping uglies

(Who is possibly not ick'd by the use of the word, but would be boring if we all had the same likes) |

I personally don’t really see the ick to it, but that’s just me.
Although I would use it in a past tense to describe the time I had with someone (not just about sex, might have been dancing in a club). “I had a fun evening with you”
I personally wouldn’t use it in a way of the word sex - “Do you fancy having some fun” |

I get that, so what word would you use instead of fun if you wanted to suggest to someone that you engage in some enjoyable activities that may or may not involve sex? |

This is more what I meant, I just described it badly I'm not against the word totally, it's when it's used to describe sex.

I think possibly because we're both Poly and looking for more than just sex and likely social more than anything else we just generally wouldn't be talking about sexual acts via an electronic medium.
So no specific word, not defining it and just letting things flow.
We'd possibly be more direct if there was a bdsm component to avoid miscommunique.
