I regularly get called posh even though I'm far from it. It was even a nickname a previous boss gave me. I think it's just from having the remnants of a south west London accent while living in the North West. |

Her ladyship insists I'm posh because of my home counties accent too.

"I went out with a bird from Cheltenham once. I was her bit of rough."
If you'd ever driven down Princess Elizabeth Way you'd change your opinion of Cheltenham.
That part is like a real life 'Shameless'.....

These days people get labelled posh because they can use cutlery! "
It would seem so. Apparently bamboo cutlery is de rigueur |

"Posh? On here? Ha ha ha ha ha.."
Why not?
I used to meet up with a woman on another site who was the epitome of posh.
Public school education, very well spoken, old school money family (think she said daddy left her a couple of million in land and she was independently wealthy), kept several show horses in the stables at her house, high level job, often got invited along to lunch with a couple of the royals, a little shy and demure but absolutely kinky and naughty in the right company.
Damn shame she no longer plays as was a fantastic person to spend time with |

"My wife went to a fee paying girls school and university educated. Does that make her posh?"
Was it Cheltenham Ladies' College and then Oxbridge? Then, yes. |

Amused by the references to Cheltenham, both ends of the spectrum. Generally thought need to be from the Home Counties to qualify as posh. As others have said, In the shires it is more likely ‘classy’ |

One would appear to be talking out of one's arse if you pontificate that to be true |

If you are in Liverpool I can see how that happens. I’m an army brat and had a southern accent when we moved to Liverpool when I was a kid got called posh for years. I’ve gone more scouse now though |

With my ignorance, I classify Posh as a certain group of people who walk and talk in a certain manner. A bit conservative, a bit reserved, a certain accent (King’s English), some level of college/uni, and high standards of personal hygiene.
But accent plays a huge role! |

Yes… because the common people could only afford one proper meal and that used to be lunch time and thus they called lunch dinner.
The more affording, posh, used to have a few meals and would refer to the more elaborate warm evening meal dinner. |
