I’m of the opinion that sightings of Nessie are largely, aside from the doubtless, plethora of fibbers, likely the result of simple misidentifications.

For instance, it is commonly speculated by many scientists that on occasion, Sturgeon (the fish variety, not the first Scottish Minister!) may swim into the loch via small channels from the sea in the vain hope of finding a mate.

They can reach up to a whopping twelve feet in length and many of the sightings particularly detailing the descriptions of a ‘humped, scaled back breaking the waters surface’ certainly fit the said fish to a tee.

Who knows though….the ongoing mystery and legend is rather comforting
