"Tried it but my hair isn't keen as it's too fine.
Pxx
How long did you try for? "
Only a couple of times. It's not something I could do for anything length of time as my hair hair is too fine and wavy. Co washing weighs it down. Have you tried sulphate free shampoo?
You need Inaswingdress really, she's great at this stuff.

It's just using conditioner no shampoo."
Ah thank you
No I haven't tried that, I think my hair would feel super greasy.

Yeah I was only allowed to use SLS free after getting a keratin treatment a few years ago. It was alright but it made my dry scalp flare up |

Yeah seems like it takes a while to get over the awkward greasy phase |

Did for a while.
I now do it but not so strictly.
I used to have a bit of an itchy flaky scalp but don't have it anymore.
I shampoo, once a month, cleanse 2 weeks later, wash my hair with conditioner every 3 to 4 days. My hair's never been better. |

"So after googling it, how does it help? I have very thick, frizzy hair so if it helps with that, I might give it a go "
The sulfates in shampoo can be too drying for some hair, and that kind of washing might only be needed occasionally.
I have thick frizzy hair, but it's also fine. Fine hair doesn't play well with it. |

Just meant to make your hair and scalp healthier and softer. Shampoo washes away oils, which dries out your ends and can make your scalp overcompensate with oil, ergo grease. |

Interesting, my scalp can feel quite dry but maybe it's not long enough to only use conditioner without it feeling greasy |

Oh right, I imagine going to just conditioner will take a while for your scalp to get used to |

It's worth experimenting with less shampoo (every other wash), or low poo, or specialist cowash products, I think.
(I've been experimenting and find myself alternating between shampoo and low poo) |

From what I've heard there's definitely an adjustment period. I'd love to try this but I don't have a long stretch of time ahead of me where I can get away with having greasy hair |

When growing it, I don’t wash my hair often (once a week/ every two weeks) and use conditioner in between and I find it’s better. But never tried no shampoo. |

I do heavily modified CGM and enjoy the results. Definitely understand not being bothered |

I'd guess you're a type 4 of some sort?
I need to wash every other day (type 2) or I itch horribly. I think the tighter the curl pattern, the less you need to wash or use shampoo or similar (ditto thicker hair). |

"Does anyone do this? If so have you seen a difference in the quality of your hair?"
I have read into this for a long time. Many positive and negative theories. During first lockdown in 2020 after giving myself a "covid" haircut I decided it was a perfect time to test this.
I can honestly say I have not washed my hair with shampoo in over 2yrs now. After a short period of "greasiness" I have stopped losing handfuls of hair in the shower and stopped my receding hairline. I am still greying at a rate quicker than rising sea levels but 100% no poo is beneficial. For me at least.

On the rare occasion my hair is proper wavy and not frizzy its fabulous. But as I don't go anywhere or do anything it seems a bit of faff. I cannot go without shampooing every two days - I start getting itchy and twitchy. |

I have fucking nightmare hair
It's super thick, ringlets in places, wavy in others, frizz everywhere if I let it air-dry, and absolutely explodes if I dare take a brush to it. Around day 3 it starts to calm down, so I get like a day of it being nice before I have to wash it again my pic from March 7th is probably the closest representation. |

Yes!
Obviously when I have my hair in protective styles I can and tend to go longer between washes. But generally I can never go more than two weeks. But easily go a week. This is interesting |

I have mostly waves, some ringlets. Your hair texture looks similar to mine. It's why I enjoy modified CGM when I'm styling my hair - because it simulates a style rather than just looking electrocuted. (Do I have everything from loose waves to large ringlets? Yup. Still better than electrocution) |

If you look at the research its not really. Just takes courage to Try. Research as far as I can find says that our hair creates natural oil to clean itself. Modern shampoo strips our hair of its natural oils. Replacing it with synthetic oils in shampoo. The greasy stage is our hairs natural reaction to trying to clean itself. It's not pretty but once you get past this stage. If you can? I think the benefits are incredible.
Again my opinion and experience. |

It really is a trial and error process and some can make it worse, others better. I follow the curly girl method and it has taken a while to find products that actually work. You need to stick with products that are devoid of certain chemicals and then you need to find the ones that work for your hair type.

I’m currently using Olaplex. I have fine, frizzy hair, which is both dry and greasy.
It’s expensive but you use such a tiny amount, and I’ve had a massive improvement in the few weeks I’ve been using it. |

Aye, I'm actually a corkscrew curly and a lot of it doesn't work for me either, high protein products (which are lorded as a holy grail) are my worst nightmare because mine is protein overloaded and frizzy as fuck.

Oh! Poo is short for shampoo! So this is putting conditioner in your hair without shampooing it first.
I'm glad we've got that sorted out. |

My great grandma never used shampoo in her entire life. She washed her hair once per week using apple vinegar...she had the most amazing, healthy, glowing hair that I have ever seen...and she kept that amazing hair until the day she died ...she was 93 |

If you used a non silicone version your hair would be greasy straw! "
Most low or no poo methods recommend eliminating silicone |

As a super quick way to think about it
- take curly girl method and adapt. You may need to wash more, with more drying products. You probably need more lightweight products and less treatment, particularly less moisture. Be more gentle in application (so clap out crunch rather than scrunch out crunch, for example). When using gel or mousse, the stronger the hold, the better. |

Anything with a coconut or avocado oil base is going to be your friend. General rule of thumb I go by is the higher the fat content the more protein you'll get. I have the same issue with the dry ends sadly so can't help massively
