Today I had a slice of ginger and matcha cheesecake and when it came out I immediately thought "thats a tasty looking pie"

Not according to Google!

The structure of cheesecake is composed of a somewhat pastry shell with a custard-like filling and sometimes contains fruit. Despite the confusing terminology, cheesecake is by no means a cake. Also, since cheesecake isn't topped with pastry, it cannot be a pie. Cheesecake is, and forever will be, a tart.

"Also I reckon it's pie rather than cake or biscuit "

A pie has sides and a lid.

This would be more of a flan.

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

Given that it’s called cheese cake, I would guess that there’s a clue in the name. Just saying!

"A cake or a fancy biscuit?"

If it gets hard when it goes off it's cake, otherwise it's a biscuite.

There was actually a court case about Jaffa Cakes being a cake or biscutit and so eligable for VAT so they had to come up with a this definition.

Yes lawyers actually spent days arguing over this.

As long as you leave the cheesecakey/biscuity part, I’m ok with that
