Aliens. Your thoughts?

So I was getting fuel earlier and guy serving me asked me my thoughts on aliens.
Told him what I thought and said it's a bit of a scary thought either way if we are or aren't alone on this big rock hurtling through the universe.
So thought I'd extend the question to you lot. |

Did a random guy just ask you that out of the blue? lol |

The invaders: alien beings from a dying planet.
Their destination: the Earth.
Their purpose: to make it their world.
It began with a closed, deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy...
Now, David Vincent knows that the invaders are here. That they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun… |

There are certainly droves of aliens on here , bad manners, time wasters and weirdos galore.... Real aliens ?, space is endless so there must be. They will be so incredibly rare though that it is highly likely they will be too far away for us ever to reach each other. Then to find they are just brightly coloured slimy slugs |

Used to be a time OP when if you mentioned UFOs or aliens you was classed as I crack pot on forums like this. I often wonder how those thinking people were crack pots for believing feel now that the USA government and military has admitted UFOs exist. And who's to say we are not the Aliens here OP . |

I like to think Ubisoft were onto something with assassin's creed with "The ones who came before us" .
Probably would explain a lot |

Wouldn't say it is hurtling. Comparatively Earth is trundling along.
Aliens, the likelihood is that there are plenty out there and they will be utterly alien in most if not all ways to us and we may not even recognise them as life-forms or even their existence. In probability terms alone it is almost unthinkable that we are the only planet of life existing. Maybe in this galaxy but not all told.
No fear either way from here. It is what it is. |

"Loved it. Great film. Better than the first one.
Exactly what I was going to say lol
You gotta be fast for the obvious.
Great minds.
Clearly! And fools rarely differ "
I prefer my line. Let’s stick with that. |

Given the size of the universe, it's improbable that there is not life elsewhere in the universe.
But a) intelligent life which is b) close enough to us to make contact and c) interested in us - also highly improbable |

Well this is similar to how Steven Hawkins says it. And I agree with him.
*(And you) but he had a degree and was pretty clever. I know little about you |

Definitely. We’ve barely scratched the surface when it comes to space travel. Who even knows how far it actually goes? |

In a universe the size it is, with the amount of planets there are, it's absolutely ridiculous to assume this is the only planet that has or had some kind of life form in the billions of years since the big bang. |

"Who's leaving all those crop circles then?
I remember seeing a very interesting documentary on the people who actually make them. It’s very clever but fairly basic. "
Plank of wood, bit of rope and something to sight with on the straight lines (guy I saw had a bit of wire on the neb of his cap with a ring at the end), I've seen something similar too |

What does an alien look like anyway? Tall and grey? Small and green? Black shadows from the corner of your eye? The weird guy next door who keeps weird hours? |

Clearly all the people who answered haven't done any actual research into the subject. It is far to big to talk about on here. I used to run a paranormal group in a pub. |

I've not written a book, no.
I'm not claiming I hold a candle to Hawking |

Sadly there was no conclusion to the classic series
There was however a 1990’s mini series which attempted to wrap things up although the now aging Roy Thinnes (David Vincent) literally only appeared in it for a few scenes. Terrance Knox (Tour Of Duty) and Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap) did however headline although it was (in my opinion) a pale imitation of the original series.

I truly believe that there has to be life on another planet out there.
But are they running around in spaceship going AKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAK like in Mars attacks? I'm not sure. |

"They built the pyramids"
No they didn't. A bunch of "free labourers" as we cannot use certain words chipped away and sanded down some mountains to leave behind what looks like big rocks stacked up to seem impressive - where else did all the sand come from? |

Arthur C Clarke said "one of two possibilities exist, either we are alone in the universe, or we are not. Both are equally terrifying"
That's pretty accurate, though I feel with an infinite universe, and infinite possibilities, there must be some other kind of life out there, and Yep, it's probably giving us a wide berth! |

Some not so simple maths and law of averages certainly points to the chance of their being other life out there. Wither they are anal probing little green or grey men is yet to be seen.
Milkyway is around 13billion yrs old. Has 240 million solar systems in it. They reacon thays around 50 billion planets. 500 million of which scientists say within habitable zone of their sun.
The universe has about 2 trillion observable galaxies in it.
Considering earth is only 4 billion years old, homoerectus 2 million years old and homosapiens 200 thousand yrs old.
The notion that humans are the most intelligent life in the universe is totally nieve and human ignorance. In just over 100yrs we have developed technology to get to Mars. Imagine where we will be and what we can do in another million years.
Who's to say one of these galaxies don't have a spices that are that far ahead of us in development.
Just a thought |
