Twitter is being bought for billions by some charachter called Elon MUsk.
Where did this Dr Evil pop up from? As for Twitter I found it to be the bore of the century.
Is Musk actually a good guy and is he spending his billions wisely? |

He's an anti-tax libertarian. The right-wingers of America love him and there a lot of support for him doing this because they think he will protect freedom of speech. They have more faith in the super-rich than I do. |

Yup.
I suspect his "freedom of speech" will not look like yours or mine. |

"He made a fortune from founding and then selling PayPal. He is CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, among other things.
He is also quite happy to make wild statements which get him into trouble.
"
And he gives his children weird AF names, X Æ A-12 Musk & Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. What’s all that about? |

"I wonder if Twitter will change much?"
I'm not sure it could get worse although Musk's idea of free speech might mean bringing Trump back. I went private last year but I find it incredibly useful to follow breaking news and track opinion. |

That’s not how this works. The users are the product. It’s a social media platform.
They harvest the data then sell it / metadata. "
Users will respond to the rules put in place. Those rules, the moderation - will almost certainly change with Musk in charge. |

What I refer to is not visible to users.
But I was pulled up for swearing and presented with an edit box recently - before he took over.
I find Twitter very frustrating. You seem to be fine to be an utter arsehole but then get banned for swearing? |

"I was surprised he got away with calling that cave rescuer what he did.
The benefits of wealth and influence I guess"
UK and US laws are vastly different when it comes libel, slander and freedom of speech. I'm not going to pretend I know all of the differences, but simply speaking you can insinuate and say a lot more about a person in the US than here in the UK.
Someone is likely to know the in's and outs on here and put me straight |

Grounds for defamation much narrower in the US, generally.
What I've gleaned is from legal commentators on YouTube |

If you look at who already owned shares in Twitter I don’t think Musk would be the worst of them. Either way I will continue to use it because it’s a brilliant app. |

"$44 billion! Strewth!!!
I read if he gave $1m to every single person living in America he’d still have $7 billion left "
Then whover wrote that can't do maths. There are roughly 330 million people in the US - a million dollars apiece would mean giving away 330 TRILLION dollars. Thats about four times annual global GDP, no individual has that much money. |

No
I've never used it either and now I will be even less inclined to do so."

Funnily enough I seen this on Twitter
I guess they were using a real billion and not the US version. |

Unfortunatrly, that would mean Musk is paying 44 billiard dollars, not 44 billion. |

Just did a quick calculation as that sounded crazy -
population approx 330,000,000; x$1m each = 330,000,000,000,000 or $330 trillion. He’s currently only at a measly $264 billion, poor chap.
If he’s worth $300 billion (he’s not) then it’s about $909 each. Yes, I should be working instead of doing this

I didn’t work it out or even put any thought into it. It just sounded plausible because he’s so rich. Now I feel like we should start a gofundme for him. |

He probably doesn't even have $264 billion, except on paper based on the shares he has in his companies. |
