Same old threads over and over again seem to do a lot better than something new or different. People comment a lot about the same threads though they seem very popular, whereas something different may only get a few participants. I have only been on the forums for a short while and noticed it time and time again. What's your thoughts?

My thoughts are these .......

Depends on who is in and what they put a thread up for ....

Some put them up to share news. Some to moan. Some for games. Some to wind others up. Some for a laugh ......

I'm going out on a limb here. Some people stick to the simpler threads like ..... Do you like my wife's arse? Cos they find it easier to contribute to that than 'If you were a nuclear physicist , how would you account for ........... etc etc ?

"The people who complain about threads being the same often don't start any. "

Have to agree. I can't say I crest posts of anything special, or all to often, but I have my own style and try to keep things less generic.

I also don't have issue with people who post the generic stuff, that's their style, I try to avoid what I don't enjoy or don't see a reason to get involved.

But very much what you say, just as in life we see complaints about things but very little effort on their part to change things or shake things up other than having a little moan themselves... Which is ironic really because moaning posts are a bit samey really too aren't they if you think about it.

Well damn... Mind blown and my eyes are now opened!

You'll find that the same threads always have the same people commenting on them.

Would be nice if newbies felt they could post without getting slaughtered like most do x

My nan’s spare room.

Hang on, I’m coming in with a reasonably serious point.

Don’t worry as it won’t last.

I can say and I have evidence, well witnesses, but I don’t like to talk about it, that I have been reasonable for initiating a thread or two that we would class as repeat offenders; and I’m also responsible for a lot of threads that go by the wayside.

Here’s the clever bit, people only notice the repeat threads because they are popular, and the reason that they repeat is because they are popular. Got it. Good I’ll continue.

The reason I post some good threads and some apparently rubbish ones (although I find them hilarious) is because I post the threads I think are funny or interesting or inclusive or silly and I don’t give tuppence as to what sort of reaction it will get.

I can’t leave this post without a little grumble. I don’t get when people take popular retreads (pun intended) and badge them as evening edition or part 94.675 or whatever, or even worse when the OP tries to lay claim to the thread, I saw a thread, one of the common ones and the OP had put as his opening gambit “thread title whatever it was, the original”

That’s when it all seems it’s about the OP and not the thread.

That’s about all I have to say about this.

The same old ones don’t get popular because they’re the same old ones, they’re popular full stop, which is why they get repeated. If something doesn’t get much attention, ergo it’s not popular, so it will never get repeated enough to turn into a same-old…

There are plenty of threads that are new that become popular, the Fab job vacancy one was great and original. I think there’s just a bit of perception bias going on

Originality is lacking in general. Many people are probably upset they can't copyright their threads and are ticked off when most of them are cloned and used by lazy unimaginative people on other forums every single day.

Some of the best threads (in my opinion) are ones that cause controversial debates, and many people don’t like starting those ones because they feel like they’ll be seen as “instigating” it and the brigade will put them on their no shag list

Interesting point, a thread is just a conversation starter, it has no requirement to stay on topic (this one hasn’t, half the time) and I don’t see the ones where there are clearly opposing views as being negative, or hostile by definition, of course there will be disagreements, hundreds post in the lounge every day l. I mean, if a poster deliberately sets out to be controversial, then they probably deserve the inevitable blow back, and I’d rather see that than people meekly ignore it and hope it goes away.

A good example is the recent ish Tom thread about the Mare of London. Personally, I found it hilarious, light hearted rubbing at its best and poking gentle fun about some of the clichés of Toms threads without being insulting - but still saw people I’d never notice post anything before get on the bullying bandwagon. And you know what, that’s fine too, I just disagree.

"New thread idea coming in…..

“Have you ever wanked using a jellyfish wrapped around your dick?”"

Heard if someone pisses on you it makes the experience less painful.

2 birds, one stone. You could wank using the jellyfish, then piss on yourself to ease the suffering

" We personally like the theory that some brainiacs have come up with is that we are nearly back to the stage of when the printing press was invented and so we could actually have something like the dark ages again and that's not as far out as it seems as have look over in America and the laws they are bringing in in Florida/texas but that will teach us both for not watching dancing on whatever substance or i'm a z list celeb pass the maggots or ostrich balls !! ......anyway Mrs4 ass is epic and still causes a twitch in the nether regions !! and her boobies are nice as well and her minnie moo is just .... "

The democratisation of information has upsides and downsides. The lack of coherent leadership through cultural shifts means the downsides seem to predominate.

You want to try starting a thread to stir some interest in transvestites that normal people are happy to contribute to without it being hijacked by trans activists or trans phones or someone screaming at you that you are doing the trans community a disservice!

I mean blinkety flip, it is like traversing s minefield. In fact I have traversed a minefield before and it was easier than trying to open a transvestite thread on here without upsetting some loon!
