Just watched some curling on the tellybox and the following random thought popped into my disease-addled brain...
...Are Team GB [any sport] hindered by the fact they discuss tactics during the game/match in English?
English is understood to at least some extent by many other nations, but, using the curling example, the opposition discussing in Swedish won't be of any help to Team GB.
Should we train all our athletes to discuss tactics in Welsh* or Gaelic*?!?!

The Swedes were shouting things down the ice quite openly whereas the GB team did have to whisper and be next to each other.

But then we'd need to pick a language that next to nohone else will understand. No good yelling in German if you're playing against Deutschland. Or Austria. Or Switzerland  |

No no no. Have a member of the team speak a different language each.
No one expects a multilingual British team. Therefore they'll inadvertently tell someone on the team everything! |
