‘Great’ movies that actually aren’t

Which ‘all time great’ critically acclaimed movies that get really high ratings on most movie sites have you seen and thought to yourself - ‘that was actually a terrible movie. I just don’t get the hype’

For me Fargo. Saw it on a site of films to ‘watch before you die’ and it rates highly.

"The English Patient."

Charlotte enjoyed it enormously, but concluded from the film that the British are obsessed with nipples.

Indeed the mumble blights too many modern films.

You want bad accents - check out Richard Gere in the Jackal. He plays an Irishman. It’s truly laughable .

Lost in Translation gets my vote too, I thought it was awful. It's Bill Murray rather than Tom Hanks, but still terrible!!

A highly acclaimed cult film but I found it…..well, bloody boring to be quite frank.

From that list, Joe Black, Braveheart, Pulp Fiction, Oceans 12 and Vanilla Sky

Others I’d add, most westerns, Gone with the Wind, Avatar and most remakes of originals.

Birdman

Lost in Translation

Black Swan

The English Patient

Dances with Wolves

Avatar

Crash

The Deer Hunter

All solid but boring.

Silence of the Lambs was ridiculously overrated too. Just because of Anthony Hopkins chewing the scenery. Manhunter is a better take on the character.

Howard the Duck and Streetfighter: The Movie are more entertaining. Even if they are shit.
