In this increasingly pink and fluffy world in that we inhabit, is it becoming less socially acceptable for men to be manly and ooze this so called "toxic masculinity"? No intentions to ruffle any feathers just to hear some thoughts.

Nah, my idea of tradintionnal masculinity involves men's and women's roles in society and I think we're much better for it now that they're more blended and we can become more well rounded as a whole

I think masculinity is a measure of character, not of physicalities and actions

You don't have to look a particular way or act a particular way to exude masculinity

You can be manly and masculine but still be in touch with your feminine side. Its about understanding yourself how and when to apply the right traits to whatever situations you are facing.

There is nothing wrong with a man being openly emotional about something he’s experiencing. Expression doesn’t make a man less masculine.

I’ve met men as camp as Christmas whose physiques suggest otherwise, so can we define masculinity by musculature? It would seem not. What does ‘masculinity’ mean to you? Nope masculinity is far from denying out and the world is far from becoming a pool of non gender specific humans as you seem to think, the societal views of what is manly and what is not have in the past caused countless suicides due to the bullshit phrases and ideals like "real men dont cry" or "real men dont show emotions", I for one would probably have been one of those statistics in the past and even as recently as 10 years ago I nearly was except for the help and support of friends that didn't hold those ridiculous ideals and actually understood that every person has feelings and emotions and can suffer the ill effects of mental health and thank god for them. I wear a semi colon tattoo proudly on my wrist to remind me that my story isn't over and that it is ok to express emotions and still be a "manly man" ok sorry rant over and done.

The idea of Manliness changes from time to time and even country to country.

In some countries, Manliness is about being physically strong and imposing. In certain other countries, especially in the east, manliness is about going to a good job, earning well and being able to single handedly look after the family.

The idea of what is manliness will keep changing simply because we don't live in a brutish environment of the past anymore. Most jobs too need more mental effort than physical effort. Will expectations from and women be exactly similar in the future? That may not happen. But it will definitely get so close.

I think the term Toxic Masculinity is a recent made up pejorative term, often used by women to denigrate men. Its popular in the media at the moment. I dont use it myself, as i see all men have various shades of grey, pink , fluffy, hard and soft. All us men are a product of our environment and our parents generation. We try hard to do what we think men should do , as fathers, sons , lovers, providers, protectors, listeners,....

As regards Real Men... Well, im not in the dock in the high court, so i dont have to choose my words ever so carefully. You just know, in your gut , your heart, its a knowing, its a right brain thing.

What is your definition of manly?

To me there are plenty of things, but I also believe:

Respecting others opinion and views in a dignified way even if you disagree is manly.

Dressing in whatever way you want, rather than solely conforming to stereotypical viewpoints is manly.

Caring for and supporting others is manly.

Showing emotion is manly.

It's only the old fashioned 'manly' man that lacks a lot of this and feels he has to basically be an emotionless bully that is becoming extinct.

That's a good thing for everyone.

If the term is used as a means of being dismissive of any man, who doesn’t fall under the archaic definition of “masculine”’roles and traits, is that what you mean by expressing toxic masculinity? Isn’t there the danger of using the definition “manly man” to hide homophobic or misogynistic prejudice?

Is a gay or bi man any less of a man, because of his sexuality?

Does putting on makeup, using products, or putting on a pair of heels, mean he is less of a man? Pretty sure he still has higher levels of testosterone than a “woman”

If he has a job, or a role in the household, that was predominantly the role of a woman, in the past, does that make him less of a man?

If he expresses fear, loss, pain, by showing his emotions, instead of repressing them, or only releasing them through aggression, does that make him less of a man?

Is the counter argument that a woman, is less than a womanly woman, if she doesn’t want to wear makeup, she likes other women, she has a job in a predominantly male environment, she hates pink and housework, she doesn’t share her feelings?

I don’t think that progressing from misogynistic and archaic traits and opinions makes anyone less than they are. For example, a woman in the army, isn’t any less of a woman, than one who is a nurse, they are so much more than their gender, or their role, just like a man is x

That’s my opinion anyway, but what do I know, I’m a woman, haha (but I do like women, and own power tools, so I could be confused
