The end of a loaf of bread?

Not a joke btw just curious as it varies from place to place. In London an ex’s family called it the nobby. Always made me laugh.

There's a trend developing here. It's a crust.

"Crust"

If it's not sliced then I call it the end.

If it's sliced it's the crust

Depends on the loaf. Normal one crust, French stick or a round one then it's nob.

It’s a crust but if it’s unsliced it’s the Nobby end.

Ah bugger, now I’m conflicted. Because I’d call the end of a baguette ‘the knob end’

To be honest I just eat it as its my favourite bit but apparently it's called either the heel or the butt. Crust can be found all around a loaf , not just the ends.

Spot on, the crust is the outside of the whole loaf, not the ends. You get crust on each slice.

London / Essex borders

On a loaf it's the Heel, or crust - on a French stick I go with Ends
