My fav band of the 80's has to be Sade.
I think most people think that Sade is her name, it's not, her name is Helen. Sade is in fact the name of the band. She is without doubt though the most successful female singer/songwriter the UK has ever produced. |

Propaganda, every single song they’ve written and performed I love. If you like 80s synth pop, you’d probably like them as well.
Honourable mention for Tears for Fears, especially the track ‘Woman in Chains’. But every time ‘everyone wants to rule the world’ comes on, it brings up wonderful memories |

AC/DC released Back in Black during 1980 and it became one of the biggest selling albums of all time (any genre of music). They continued to be my favourite band of the 1980s although I started listening to others at various times. |

All pretty different I feel sorry for kid's today as we was spoilt for choice with such a wide variety of different music on offer.

It’s a long thread so forgive me if they’ve already been mentioned.
The Cure.
And I’m going to see them live in November! Whoop whoop!!

"I can't believe no one has mentioned "Hall & Oats"???
They have had good back catalogue of songs. I have a double cd best of. It's really good! Good shout, chuck on Joe Jaskson and XTC in as compatible acts with them
"
Saw Joe Jackson a couple of years back. He was great. |

Every band and singer named above. The 80's were awesome for music.

I liked the police, then moved into being a rock chick/ cross ska.
Still stuck in that era at times |

Mrs, loves a bit of Bon Jovi. Seen them a few times.
Mr, there’s only one. Mark,Mike,Phil and Boon (RIP) aka Level 42. And still going strong, with the current lineup being quite brilliant.

How can folk mention The Human League but not talk about Heaven 17? Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh founded The Human League, Phil Oakey wasn't even their first choice singer, they wanted Glenn Gregory, who wasn't available at that time. The Human League were great, I saw them in Hull recently, they were marvellous, but Heaven 17 the month before in Sheffield were better. Heaven 17 arguably developed a sound closer to Ware & Marsh's original concept for The Human League, but that's not to say that Phil Oakey was rubbish because he wasn't, he took The Human League in a brilliant new direction. The point is I can't see how you can have the one band without the other.
Anyway. Never mind all that. The answer is, as any fule kno, Simple Minds |
