You out there.. who like me claim not to have a particular type.
Did you ever wonder why is that?
Are we simply indecisive? We don't know what we are after until it comes to us? We don't get hooked up on features? Throw me some possible explanations, please. Curious... |

This will get me flack but here goes....I think we look for a type that we imagine would look for ourselves....I wouldn't be a slim persons type so my type isn't a slim person |

Think you may have answered your own question OP. I think it comes down to having a curious nature.
Some people like eating the same meals over and over and others want to try something new all the time. I think the same can be said for attraction. |

That explanation doesn't work for me. Following that logic I should assume it should be someone of average shape for me but I have people who are very athletic meeting me or interested in meeting me so I wouldn't say it applies to myself. That comes with belief in leagues I guess. Or the fact certain body types should only associate with alike. |

Prepares to be shot down but...
I think that those who have no type are probably more open minded, especially as by type our average immediate go to reaction is to think physical type, not personality type.
No-one breaks out the 4 quadrant thing when talking about types, we are much more 2 dimensional about it.
I think if you have a type, you are limiting yourself and denying yourself potential opportunities. |

I just never like to limit my choices by having ‘a type’. That’s not to say that any hole’s a goal though. I don’t understand myself why I find one person attractive, and the next person not, so I can’t really explain it either.
Maybe I is just weird. |

I would describe myself as a guy who doesn’t necessarily have a type, I guess this is due to peoples individuality, what I find attractive in one girl, and this may be something as subtle as a smile, may not necessarily be the same attraction I have for another, variety is the spice of life,. |

Quite simply because every person is different and brings their own uniqueness, why miss an opportunity just because someone had blonde hair instead of brunette.
I’ve never had a type when it comes to looks, all long term partners have looked physically different and no two have been the same, I could say the same for my fab interactions.
It is their personality that catches my attention and keeps it. If I’d gone on a type solely I would have missed meeting some cracking individuals. Group socials have cemented this theory to me as there are some whose profiles I wouldn’t have given a second glance at, but in person they come alive and you see their true self.
Rambling now, but I know in my mind what I mean |

Interesting. When it comes to relationship I've been guilty of searching those who reminded me of two father figures. When it comes to sex/friendship it's so varied. |

Same, when I look at who am attracted to, it would appear haphazard. But to me there's something about them that intrigues me, be it looks or how they think or personality. |

'Type' usually refers to physical appearance, so in that respect at least I don't have a type. But. Technically I do because I'm picky as fuck.
I've done the online dating thing for years and if a woman doesn't have a pretty high level of intelligence, isn't funny and doesn't have interests that actually are interesting I'm out.
So no. I don't have a type |

Hey Rose, personally I've never been hooked on physical features. There are ones that I don't go for, but generally speaking it's the whole package that appeals. And as I am not interested in just sex, I pay more attention to the way I feel with someone and the energy between us than the colour of his hair. |

It's an interesting question, it really is. I certainly like to think I don't have a "type", but thinking about it critically it might be more accurate to say I have LOTS of types. I adore goth/alternative girls, I'm crazy about hippy chicks, I love brunettes and I'm wild about redheads, bigger girls are fucking sexy, petite girls are beautiful, strong girls are gorgeous...
I wonder if I'm simply greedy? |

I recall someone on here describing their ideal woman in 5 features and sharing that he was lucky once to meet one who ticked 4 out of 5.. I thought to myself.. what about all those you had sex with in between, who weren't the perfect sex holy grail.. how do they fit into this quest? They are just substitutes? Until that perfect one comes along?
I wouldn't call anyone narrow minded though for having very specific physical type. Just that they make their life harder I suppose? Or maybe it's easier when its so precise in your mind. |

This. My ex wife was 4'10" and very petite, she was convinced that I would prefer someone taller, curvier and bustier. Her ladyship is taller, curvier and bustier and is convinced I prefer small, petite women.
Frankly, I just like variety

I also don't have a type and have commented about this multiple times x I just enjoy variety and the differences spice things up. I can appreciate a gym body but I also enjoy a big strapping guy.
The main thing for me is humour. If you can make me laugh and have good banter with me then I'm down to play x it's all about arousing my mind first x
I just wanna have fun and experiences with like minded people x I do have standards tho so I don't say yes to everyone or everything! X

For me it's not about body shape, hair colour and the size of her tits - is about whether we 'click'. If someone attracts my attention with her humour and personality then I'm liking her already. A squeezable bum and blue underwear is a bonus. |

I actually have a no-type - narrow minded asshats.
People are sexy when they are confident, I like to fancy confident people (not arrogant people) people who don’t give confidence to others or don’t make me feel confident are a type I don’t go for. It’s all confusing I know. |

I’m not indecisive at all, I know exactly what I want - to meet people that interest and excite me with their personalities first! The attraction grows and what colour hair or body type is as relevant as their job or favourite food ! |

The great poets of the 21st Century 'Rae Sremmurd' said it best with their seminal work: 'No Type'
and I quote:
"She said, "Whats your type?" (Yah)
I said "I like what I like!" (Yah)
I don't second guess (Nah)
I just roll the dice (Keep it movin')"
Exquisitely put - if you ask me.

What does it mean to have standards? Are people you don't fancy somehow sub standard?
I detest reading about standards on someone's profile - to me it implies a person who considers themselves better than others.
There are so many different types of relationship you can have with other people even if you restrict the list only to those you have sex with. Each relationship is unique and based on different circumstances and different needs/wants/desires that may be applicable only for a short period of time or may apply to larger aspects of life.

I certainly do not think I am better than anyone by any stretch of the imagination however standards such as hygiene, manners, respect etc would you prefer if I were to say I have certain values I insist on? Whichever way things are worded it will cause misrepresentation to some.

You will have a type OP we all do subconsciously though that may not be physical. We are attracted to people that fit with us in someway. Looks wise that might differ.
The way of finding out is what do the people you find attractive have in common and the people you don’t find attractive, what do they have in common. |

I have previously said typing is not a strong point. I will rephrase 'some ladies'.
To the heads turned point. I do believe in a world full of social media, dating sites etc. It's a lot more common or easier to have our heads turned. That includes all genders. Yet again it's who you are as a person, so not all.

I appreciate beauty, humour and witt and am drawn to those qualities. I can think of women from black, white, Eastern European east asian, south Asian, Middle Eastern backgrounds I’ve been intimate with or attracted to without being able to say I have a particular type.
It’s more an individual 1-2-1 vibe. The idea that people can regard, or disregard, a whole race/culture is odd to me. |

I think misrepresentation is less of an issue than it's often made or to be. You choose examples that are all subjective yet speak of them as though they have universally agreed definitions. Take hygiene for example, what counts as having good hygiene? A bath every day? Or should that be a shower? Is it bad hygiene to only wash your hair once a week? How about manners, do you believe that it's ok to have your elbows on the table during a meal or is that rude?
I'm not asking these to attack your views just to say that for any area of life there is a range of opinions as to what behaviors are acceptable. To call these standards absolutely means that you believe those who don't meet the levels you require are not good enough for you. The very fact you picked hygiene as your first option shows this - I mean who wants to meet someone that is dirty or smelly right?
For any type of behaviour there will always be a range of opinions on what is acceptable. I will have behaviors that I consider bad manners or unhygeinic - I just wouldn't dream of calling them standards or values or anything else and I'm very aware that what I seem to be acceptable is very different to what others think. I also wouldn't suggest that someone who has different levels to me doesn't therefore have values or standards or that their standards are higher or lower than mine.

Let's agree to disagree, I don't want to deviate from the ops post with a back and forth explaining my reply. |

The only 'type' of guy I like is one who lives up to his profile.
Too many
'Heavy cummers' who aren't
'Straight' guys who aren't
Have 'big cocks' but don't
Aren't 'pushy' but are
Etc etc!

"So what's the difference between a 'type' and a 'preference'? I have either, or both.."
I am guessing a type is a set of several preferred defining qualities. |

I personally would say a type is subconscious and and preference is conscious |

I,d say type is determined by preference.
I don't have a 'type' because I regard everyone as an individual. As friends there has to be common ground as far as sex is concerned i do nsa anonymous; it is about the moment not some emotion/connection/relationship stuff |

You can be drawn to a type with or without any attraction and not be able to explain why. In your subconscious this is where your personal values etc are and the type you are drawn to with exhibit some of those same values |

"You out there.. who like me claim not to have a particular type.
Did you ever wonder why is that?
Are we simply indecisive? We don't know what we are after until it comes to us? We don't get hooked up on features? Throw me some possible explanations, please. Curious... "
This was me, i finally found around 12 month ago i really do have a type, its asif a switch clicked and that was that. I definitely have a type now and dont deviate from it. |

"Online I have a physical type.
In real life it’s about connection."
I think actually in real life my type is much more specific.. here where you see first a gallery with carefully selected body parts usually it's less defined. I read them at the same time as I watch them.. and the writing builds a picture as strong as their looks at times. |

This will get me flack but here goes....I think we look for a type that we imagine would look for ourselves....I wouldn't be a slim persons type so my type isn't a slim person "
I'm totally with you on this one, however I do have to click with a person to like them, looks come second. |

I don't have a physical type in men (I do in women), but when I look back over my dating/relationship/FWB history they do all have certain things in common: they're always great conversationalists, well-read, usually well-travelled, curious about the world and about people. They're normally left wing and usually very intelligent, though not necessarily academic.
They have a great sense of humour and a keen sense of the ridiculous, and are happy to take the piss out of themselves.
I truly don't have a physical type because I have found my type in all sorts of different bodies over the years. |

For me it's probably because I lack the ability to be physically attracted to someone before getting to know them so my "type" has ended up being the type of personality I'm drawn to and therefore the physical appearance of people I've dated/slept with varies massively. Especially with men. I have more of a physical type with women. |

Reading through this thread that seems to be a very common theme
It's interesting though in my vanilla world, my friends definitely have a type... So is it just the swinging /BDSM world where we were less fixated on external and more intrigued by the internal?! |

Personally I've always been like this, even as a teenager. I've never had celebrity crushes or anything though I did once have a crush on the nerdy inventor dad from transformers . But I didn't fancy Mark Wahlberg in any other context. |

This is a really interesting point. Though I've always been like this as far as I can remember. Even my non sexual friends you wouldn't see a type. I'm wondering if those who are just have a more curious nature or a less fixed idea of who they should be friends with, are more predisposed to swinging and kink? |

I can be attracted to a persons appearance. Easily, like art my eyes see something I enjoy looking at. But to become sexual, I would need to talk to them and get to know who I am going to get naked with. And that can have a good outcome or bad.
Then there’s the opposite, I become more attracted to someone I get to know, although they never turned my head at the the start, it’s their personality that pulls me in and I then have lustful thoughts for them.

I wouldn't say I have a physical type for men or women really. I do joke about it being an older man but I think that's because they tend to have more developed personality traits that I find attractive - I like passionate people with sparkling wit who are openminded, engaging and amusing. Complicated but not enough to make me tear my hair out. I think I'm relatively comfortable with the fact that I have to be friendly with someone to want to have sex with them, that probably has a knock on effect on my "type". |

My crushes are often on voices too. There isn't a type there but I know what I dislike. And most beautiful voice won't stand on its own either. But it's a wonderful enhancement to the rest.. |

I don’t have a type when it comes to physical attributes (outside of being alive).
I am attracted to their personality, how they act, their values and our compatibility.
I can appreciate and recognise typical beauty aesthetics, but it does nothing for me regarding being attracted to them. |

I do have a type but as I've matured I've found I can be attracted to all sorts. The main theme I've noticed is kindness, I'm a sucker for a warm, kind, and thoughtful individual with no aires and graces. |

I don't have a type as all women have different things that I find attractive at different times, and they say variety is the spice of life. MrK |

"type" is not mentioned anywhere in my profile. I'm not even sure what it really means.
My "type" - if I have one - is not constrained by the 'visual'. It's about the cognition, the demeanor, the dialogue, the smile, the scent... it's about *everything*.
I am type 'agnostic'. I think. |

Because we look for a spiritual connection and we are wise enough to know that can come from anywhere?
Or to put it another way, the saddest person in the food court is the fussiest eater. |

When people mention type, they usually mean physically, and I've come to realise that whenever I think I have a type, someone comes along who doesn't fit it and totally blows it away.
However, there is one thing they all have in common and that is the connection we form and many of the people I like have a similar mind.
So I guess I do have a type, but it's a mental one rather than a physical one and so much harder to describe. |

I'm lucky in that I love ALL types! I've been attracted to many women of all shapes, colours and sizes.
I'm even branching out into men, but I have to confess, I still prefer women.

I suppose I have a type in terms of personality. There are some people I would know I would never get on even if they were attractive to me. But the type of personality I love seems to come in all sorts of different 'looks'. So not a physical type for me no, although Im sure I have subconcious preferences that filter people through. Ive not met or fallen for that many men so difficult to know really, but I do know personality traits that turn me on and that I seek |

I’m like this. I think it all boils down to what gets you off. If you’re about the external a little more you tend to have more boxes to tick to start with where as if like me it’s the something about them thing then it doesn’t matter as much. That being said the attraction still has to be there but it’s just in different types of packaging |
