Unfortunately that’s the problem with writing instead of talking.

"when you post something as a joke and it upsets people"

People tend to read what they want to read not necessarily what was written or what was meant.

Also text speak, lack of grammar, poor punctuation, lazy writing doesn't help the readers comprehension.

^ this... theres all sorts that ppl in the forum will talk about that someone can pick apart and label it as being offensive, so whos in the wrong?

As for P.C. how many times has it been stated that its often the ppl without such struggles who get offended the most? Ive known ppl with dissociative disorder and ive been able to half a laugh with them and joke about it. Was i being wrong joking about it with them? Were they themselves being wrong for joking about it in the first place cos others may struggle with it?

What happened to humour in general these days? Cant say anything without someone getting offended and suddenly everyone banding together out of some sense of egoistic self righteousness and demonising the ppl who simply wanted to say or do something humorous.

What annoys me the most is when ppl get so offended by something and try to pander to those who "struggle", you do realise that doing so can in fact make those ppl feel even more uncomfortable?

Ive had depression and anxiety since i was a teenager, ive been on suicide watch and tried to take my own life as well, id rather joke about and put a humorous spin onto it than feel like i need to pandered to and sheltered by others, and many other ppl, whatever challenges they face also feel the same way too.

When you have a good conversation with someone but you say they are not really for you (very politely).

Then they call you 4 letter words, are totally abusive and block you.

Lucky escape.

Some jokes just aren’t funny, some may only be funny to certain people.

However it does seem “we” have become more polarised of late, with less tolerance and willingness to converse or debate and instead just labelling all those with a different opinion than ourselves as wrong.

"Some jokes just aren’t funny, some may only be funny to certain people.

Depends if it is a joke or simply a poor sense of humour. And many lack a sense of humour in general and therefore wont understand the context or purpose and rather than admit to having a poor sense of humour, would rather demonise others as being insensitive.

As ive said previously in this thread, ive tried taking my life in the past. Is the insanely high rate of suicide among young men a laughing matter? Of course not. But would i myself, someone who does feel strongly about the mental health in young men, feel i should be offended and demonise someone, who makes a joke or says something with the purpose of being humorous, related to suicide among young men? No i wouldnt.

Too many ppl these days are as tighter than an anal virgins asshole and really need to loosen up.

And its funny as well when the initial joke that was made was related dissociative disorder, has anyone considered the fact that the OP may suffer with this?

People take offence or are offended by a multitude of subjects, topics or utterances.

Giving an opinion or stating a position may cause offence often quite unintentionally. However if offence is the intention of the originator it still is not a right not to be offended.

An example is my view on the existence of a god or subscription to an religion will undoubtedly cause offence to some. Equally someone who publicly advertises their god or promotes their religion causes me offence. They have the right (within the law) to express their views despite it being offensive to me.

Hold on im struggling to understand your position here. The OP made the joke without the intention to offend anyone but someone got offended by it anyway. However you were practically one of the first to jump in on this thread saying it shows a lack of empathy and compassion.

So what.. it doesnt matter if the OP didnt intend to offend anyone regardless cos hes still being offensive and lacks empathy for others?

I feel like both comments youve made contradict each other given the intended point of view from each one

I wouldn't say they're hypocrites. Everyone has a different idea of what they find funny which is why there are so many types of humour and comedy genres. It's about how you react to a joke that upsets you in my opinion.

Humour is subjective, as is offence. I don't think anyone posts anything with the intent to offend, but it will happen - sorry if it does, but when it does people have often either not articulated the joke well or misread the intent of it.

This is the Lounge and jokes will continue to be made and not everyone will like them.
