Somewhere In The Ether…

Chickens love to dust bath and tend to become distressed in factory farms when they aren’t able to clean themselves in this manner. The bathing helps to ward off parasites as well as maintaining feather insulation

Somewhere In The Ether…

Chickens tend to formulate strict ‘pecking orders’ wherein there will be a clear hierarchy.

It is judicious to bear this in mind when introducing new chickens into a group as the newer hens will often be bullied by the more long standing members.

…..a bit like on here then

Oh yes indeed; some know no fear whatsoever, whatever the size of their intended victim - humans included!

Having said this, a great many are as docile as anything and I even had one years ago who used to get picked on and bullied by the hens(!!!) (I had to put the poor old bugger in his own pen for his own safety in the end)

We find the use of peepers and plenty of things for them to hide behind helps when introducing new chickens.

Pop them in your slow cooker and just finish off for 10 mins in the oven if you like crispy skin. Juiciest breast you'll ever try
