What like me knowing I was bi even though I didn't know the term, or know anyone else who was. So just kept it to myself because I knew I was straight but also not a lesbian. So felt like a weirdo. Until I found out there were others like me when I was older.

It's always been around just people may not have had the labels or conformed to the norm

It wouldn't be hard to imagine that a fair few monks and nuns have been asexual over the centuries.

Difference is being straight , gay , bi and even sex change is an emotional state involves feeling and emotions social media stuff does not

So people can't speak about how they feel or identify as individuals, on Social Media?

People like to belong, imagine feeling that you didn't fit in with any of the groups you know. Did these sexualities exist before? Obviously. Were they often suppressed leading to people feeling like they were unable to be the person they wanted? Of course. Has the fact that many types of sexuality now have names and are openly discussed helped many people to live happier lives? Absolutely. Does this mean that some people are attracted to the idea of a certain sexuality rather than the reality and therefore some of those claiming these "new" identities are perhaps less than genuine? Probably. Is anyone else hurt by this? Of course not. It's there a problem then? No.

I am sure that those brave enough to announce their sexuality to the world in the face of bigotry, disowned by families, separation from friends and loved ones would disagree.

The designated terminology is probably more recent (there are some 46 types now listed) but the identification by the individual i.e their own sexual preference parameters are probably as old as time.

These things have always been there. Even when you didn't know. Even if some of the terminology has evolved.

Your ignorance does not preclude their existence.

Sexuality and gender are both spectrums. However most people are probably close to one end of each spectrum and the language to describe each point on those spectra hasn't been in everyday lexicon for long.

Especially with gender. Most people are close enough to either end that they might never have thought about it.

Being gay doesn't mean you automatically 'understand it all' or are 'less confused'. It doesn't mean you don't have to learn and grow in your understanding of the world and it's differences.

What I hope it means, however, is that you're more tolerant and understanding. Willing to learn and overcome that confusion because you yourself understand how prejudice and outright hostility can be damaging mentally and physically.

Gay men get it in the ear in particular about all these vast gender identities, it is tiring for many of us and completely unrelated to sexual attraction. That is my point about being lumped in, not about being tolerant or not. I am sure you would not want it constantly in the ear for something not related to you

I think people often confuse sex as in gender, with sexuality as in attraction.

Therefore, it all tends to get lumped into one pot for those who it does not impact.

Both my kids had it, my eldest didn't regain his birth weight and was vomiting blood and being sick constantly. I was told to expect the worst as the Drs didn't think of it as he was exclusively breastfed. Those 3 months were the most horrific time ever, in and out of A&E constantly, testing for serious life threatening diseases.

And then when I asked at restaurants if milk was in the meal I was treated to eye rolling, constantly.

"Gay men get it in the ear in particular about all these vast gender identities, it is tiring for many of us and completely unrelated to sexual attraction. That is my point about being lumped in, not about being tolerant or not. I am sure you would not want it constantly in the ear for something not related to you "

What do you mean that you 'get it in the ear? Why would gay men get it more than anyone else?

Who is lumping who in with what?

Sexuality really is poorly served by the definitive labels given; heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual etc. Sexuality is a spectrum with endless possibilities and individualism. I long to see the day (I never will but in a couple of hundred years....) when acceptance is society wide and we place no importance on people's preferences. If we were all to just be ourselves and not judge others then the world would undoubtedly be a better place.

Totally!!!! I agree with this x it’s individual to each one of us. Yes some may verge more between those 3 + asexuality in the middle and opposite there’s the pan sexual if u think of it as a 3D rhombus

People should really read more peer reviewed journal articles (on all subjects), the science on sexuality is light years ahead of the general public perception of it.

This: https://www.idrlabs.com/sexual-orientation/test.php is a blunt test, but it gives you the idea regarding sexuality being more of a spectrum than a limited defined list of possibilities.

"I don't agree there as always been straight , gay, bi and even heard of the odd sex change person this goes back to the beginning of time the rest is made up and risen due to social media would love to make something up put it on social media and the next day there would be 10 thousand people the same

It wouldn't be hard to imagine that a fair few monks and nuns have been asexual over the centuries."

Well there was Definitely no bi or gay goings on in Rome or Ancient Greece, no sir.

We're on another site and there are over 50 different ways to describe your sexuality. Lots of them blur into one when I Google them. We get very confused, trying to get our heads around the finer distinctions.

"Ok why did we not know this 20 years ago I say it's because it did not exist "

Of course it existed !! People didn't speak about it then, possibly because they feared how other people would react !

Yes, as were food allergies etc. People just died from them. See all the stories of children/adults who were “sickly” with no real explanation/cure.

I doubt it affects the majority of people, these new categories. I have been asked how I like to be addressed whilst dressed and I always say, as the sex I’m trying to portray. But I’ve had Tgirls, Women and Men call me ‘mate’ whilst out and about. Do I get arsey about it, no it’s often just a slip of the tongue, no malice. Plus these days I’ve seen lots of younger people both male and female calling each other mate recently.

Just let people live their lives and if it doesn’t affect you regularly, just leave it for the comment section of the Daily Fail website

More generally, on sexuality, health, science, etc., the knowledge has been around for some years, sometimes for many many years, when the general public become aware of it. Some stuff look like they appeared because of social media but actually social media just raise awareness of them.

"It's like peanut allergies and Asthma.

People had them, it's just that no one cared

Bit like me with folk needing labels really then.

Yet you use them in your profile.....

Enlighten me?

I may have the wrong end of your comment but you seem to be saying you don't think people need labels yet your profile says you are looking for bi-fems.... If I have I apologise.

Nope, I have read and re-read our profile and can find no mention of the new fandangled labels anywhere.

Oh just the new fangled ones.... I see labelling bisexuals correctly is OK because you want to play with them but not other sexualities "

Can't be doing with woke folk who have to put a label on everything.

Just get on with your life and enjoy as its too short to get hung up on.

You're asking if people get their sexuality from social media?

Labels have existed as long as we have.

Labels help define who we are and where we can find our 'tribe'. They help understand our boundaries, the people and the world around us.

You would resort to violence over some one calling you mate?

Seems a poor reaction, maybe consider anger management and using your words rather than fists to respond to people such as

"I prefer you did not call me mate as it has deep personal and hurtful conitations for ms, I'd rather you called me xxxxxxxxx."

I can't think of any term that someone could call me that would lead me to punch them.

Jeez…. That was obviously a joke, do you think I could ever punch someone? I’ve got the strength of a butterfly if that

It was just to say, that It’d really gripe me if someone called me mate cos mate is someone you call a guy. But also, mate = friend . we probably aren’t friends… so . No
