Scariest TV Shows
Jump to: Newest in thread
There have been many scary TV shows in the past decades. Which ones were your favourites?
Mine has to be The Twilight Zone and Goosebumps.
The Twilight Zone theme tune used to creep the hell out of me as a kid but have always loved the show.
Goosebumps is kind of like The Twilight Zone for kids but more focused on monsters and other supernatural entities. It's interesting that R.L. Stine who wrote the books was an actual fan of Rod Serling and The Twilight Zone and it gave him the inspiration for his books. |

Back in the day the hammer house of horror series did provide some scares. I was a kid who loved anything hammer. I remember there was one episode with a witch who clawed the heroines partner just before she overcomes the evil witch. Was well made, but creepy. |

"'Tales of the Unexpected' - that was some weird twisted shit. "
Indeed. The story where the landlady turned people in dummies was disturbing as it indicated she gutted her victims and then stuffed them with her taxidermist skills.
The Royal Jelly episode was pretty sick with the guy turning into a bee. |

I remember one episode called The House That Bled which appeared on 100 Greatest Scary Moments showing a pipe spraying blood all over everyone at a birthday party. |

There was a one-off special called The Haunted or Ghost Watch or something. It had Michael Parkinson in the studio and Sarah Greene as a roving reported. I saw it as a kid and thought it was a live broadcast and didn't realise it was scripted. I was scouring the newspapers the next day on my paper-round to see what happened. It was the talk of the school. I only realised it was scripted a long-time later. |

"Not sure if it was a tv show first, but “Salem’s Lot,” scared the shit out of me!
Yes that scene with the window
"
Yikes!
There was another one where it was daylight, and they were grabbing the coffin, but all the vampires were crawling towards them! ![](/icons/s/eek.gif) |

That was what Straker (James Mason) - his human servant - called him. His name was Kurt Barlow.
Giving rise to that brilliant line in Mason's softly sinister voice: *Oh you'll enjoy Mr Barlow... and he'll enjoy you."
I think if you were a little kid, like I was (9 or 10) when Salem's Lot was first shown you've never forgotten it. I remember being absolutely terrified watching it. Definitely one of the scariest TV shows ever. |

There was a childrens programme in the 70s that involved some kind of puppets coming alive at the end of the garden locked in a shed of some type.
Have tried looking for it on the internet but couldnt find it.
That was scary. |

"I'm surprised no one has mentioned Armchair Thriller with that episode Quiet as a Nun. That episode was pretty freaky when you see the faceless nun at the end."
Was that the TV programme with the shadow sitting down on the chair, for the opening titles ? |

That terrified me. Some boy killed himself after so his ghost would protect his mum |

I love a good scare but genuinely have never found a film or tv series that can deliver. Haunting on hill house was good and probably the best I can recall recently |

I heard about that. Very tragic what happened. I remember the show getting so many complaints including one that complained that it was so scary, he actually soiled himself. |

I remember being really affected by that, until someone pointed out to me that it was obviously scripted and showed me evidence, then I was finally able to sleep with the lights off again .
Not sure if anyone remembers the programme the tripods? That certainly caused a few nightmares. |

"Zelda from Terrahawks used to terrify me as a child.
I can understand why as she is freaky looking. I've always loved the Terrahawks.
So do I."
Cool. I have the show on dvd. Always good to watch. I even watch the Christmas episode every Christmas lol |

I remember that one when it was shown on 100 Greatest Scary Moments when it showed a guy taking off his hat to reveal this strange design imprinted on his head. |

I watched that and both my sister and I were too scared to turn the telly off and just ran upstairs leaving the lights on. I watched it again on YouTube last year, well maybe about half an hour before I got bored. How we didn't know it was fake even as kids is beyond me. I just think maybe we were a lot more innocent in that era compared to today where kids have a lot more intellect around media. |

Despite having no discernible plot, way too many characters and is disproportionately bleak, has more episodes than I can count and still so many more to come, my favourite scary show is… the news ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

The ones like neighbours, corrie, eastenders, bake off, top gear, gogglebox, love Island etc etc etc that suck the viewers brains out and steal them away from their own precious existence! ![](/icons/s/2/eh.gif) |
