To both geminis above.... you can take risks and your other part puts a risk treatment plan in action.
You make decisions, the other half thinks of the consequences.
You are players maybe?

Ah the cusp - another component of whether you are more the one or the other.... ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Some believe there is something in it, others do not. What cannot be denied that the so-called Placebo effect can come into play and believing you are something (even if it is not substantiated in scientific evidence) can nonetheless make you act differently? |

I am not a believer in the details of a horoscope either but I have found that people can identify with their star sign and almost "become" a bit like it - if that makes sense? |

For the record, I do NOT believe in horoscopes, others may and I am not arguing with them.
I do think though that we could perhaps be influenced by some things that are attributed to a star sign - so for example if you have been told you are naturally a risk taker, you might be more inclined to display risky behaviour? |

I don't believe my star sign determines egg prices, and as for the lottery,I've been doing it since it started, nearly 30 years ago and still only won the odd couple of quid here n there,so I guess, don't trust a Scorpio for winning lottery numbers ![](/icons/s/redface.gif) |

It may all be bullshit to some, and it may not be to others.
Religion means a lot to some, but not to others.
Updates on Harry and Meghan's lives are important to some and not to others.
Vaccine or no vaccine... that is the question for some but not all.
Whatever label one chooses to give to something/ somebody - it does not alter the fact that others think differently.
How boring would the world be if we all thought the same?

That’s very true.
“There are more things in heaven and earth…” and no one knows all influences as we are but star dust.
However I simply don’t believe that the time of year in which you were born can tell you anything more than that. One twelfth of the population isn’t going to be the same based on that.
As you say though; people find comfort in it, so that’s great.
Personally I distrust things which are blindly believed in without question |

I am coming from the "live and let live angle here" but I want to also mention that some people believe not the star sign per se, but the approximate time of conception makes a baby a winter/ summer/ autumn/ spring etc baby which in turn might equip them with different traits and attributes, to assist their survival.
I am not one for dismissing anything even if I don't believe it necessarily to hold true. By the sound of it, you are tolerant of other views, too. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I am, I’m not nearly as brusque as my words might betray.
Perhaps it’s the horoscope peddlers that are the real issue but it’s very difficult to separate the charlatans from anything vaguely compelling |

There is absolutely no mechanism whereby far distant stars, or even much closer planets can have any effect on us, I forget the exact figures but the gravitational pull of Mars (which is the only means possible for a planet to exert effect at a distance is something like the equivalent of a person walking into the same room. Walking up a hill has a far bigger effect on the gravitational forces you feel than anything the planets do.
The star signs themselves are just imaginary shapes formed by joining the dots of an utterly random bunch of stars to create a "picture" that is said to represent something.
I have no objection to people believing whatever they want, what I do object to is those who make money by peddling such nonsense. It is outright fraud and anyone doing it should be subject to all the usual laws protecting consumer rights.

I hear you and empathise to some degree with your concerns - in the same way that tarot card readers are sometimes accused of similar.
I would argue though that even psychotherapists, psychologists, life coaches and counsellors sometimes (not always) work in ways that cannot be proven. Would you argue the same should apply for them out of interest?
My thread was meant light-hearted and tongue in cheek anyway. |

"Sorry, I'm firmly on the 'what a load of old shit' side of the fence.

This bugs me too. Stories about constellations being added imply a total lie that a constellation is something that can be discovered. A constellation is nothing more or less than an imaginary picture formed by joining the dots of random stars. Unlike say a galaxy or a star cluster, you cannot "find" a constellation you can only imagine one. The recent story is the same story that bubbles up every now and then about other constellations - of which there are lots - named by ancient star gazers. The fact that we have settled on a random bunch of 12 of these tells you all you need to know. You may as well throw a handful of rice on your patio, play dot to dot with it to make imaginary shapes and then use these shapes to help guide your life choices.

Absolutely, anyone offering such services should be strictly legislated. You only need to look at the scandal brewing in the US over camps meant to help unruly teens to see the utter carnage misplaced psychotherapy can cause.
That isn't too say that psychology is a pseudo science by any means, just that a psychologist who causes harm is subject to professional censure, astrologers are not.
I get that your thread may be light hearted to you but a quick browse through the replies shows how many believe this stuff. Surely normalising and reinforcing belief in lies cannot be harmless?

One can't rely on what zodiac predicts for you.
Mostly, we get believe on what your star unless it has happened so not much chance to avoid it.
The argument is: we as a human being get affected by everything,i.e. weather, colurs, fragrance, a word of praise, positive vibes, good food, human touch and good sex; similarly the stars do have an everlasting effect on us!
Just my idea, you may disagree.

I can understand why you might be concerned - I think I would be if one of my kids were to follow a let's call it a "cult" that completely took over their life, their rational thinking etc.
I also believe in freedom of will, that people make choices and are ultimately responsible for the choices and their consequences - please note, I exclude from this people considered not able to make informed decisions, the clinically vulnerable.
So if people decide they believe in whatever they choose to believe in, that is ok by me. Otherwise we would have to legislate against most of the British press to keep people safe?

Actually mine is absolutely spot on regards to characteristics "
Very very tidy!!!
I dont have OCD but I can't stand untidiness or unhygienic atmosphere.

"It may all be bullshit to some, and it may not be to others.
"
True, but the very point of star signs is saying you are not responsible for any of your own traits, and in some cases your actions are predetermined.
People are far too unique to fit in to 12 signs. People are what they are because they choose to be, not because of some celestial power.
People believing in something different from somebody else is fine. It is welcomed, but it doesn't change the fact that what they believe is made up, and contradicts itself or is often twisted to suit a narrative.
As is and should the ability to challenge such beliefs. |

No worries!!
I think, your profession also has an impact of your general attributes, so I think it is partly due to my profession that I have to keep everything clean and tidy.

Challenging is good - as long as it is done in a respectful way, so without ridicule or name calling. Absolutely. |

"How much? 0%.
I don't think I'm like any particular star sign to be honest. I identify with various traits in different ones."
I think that is probably the point some people are making on this thread that horoscopes are often kept in very generic terms so many people identify with many traits. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"Literally nothing. It's just as much of a scam as the Myers-Briggs bullshit. "
So Myers-Briggs based on Jungian thinking has helped many organisations to put together functioning teams, broadly speaking.
It is your perfect right to call this bull-shit - just as it is the perfect right of some of the biggest employers (including some of the Armed Forces) to use this tool as part of an overall assessment. |

"Nightmoves and CDStef - are you kidding me... you are both Sagittarius and non-believers? How could you do this to me in one thread? "
Because my horoscope never makes much sense but I buy into all the characteristics, like artsy, impulsive, lacking attention span etc.
I had a tarot reading once and it was like somebody looking into my soul. Same with a homeopathy session. I think maybe people who do one to one alternative medicine/diagnostics are just good empaths. |

"OP in what way do you think that they determine things?
And by what mechanism does that happen? "
I personally do not believe that my star sign determines who I am.
There is a thought which I alluded to earlier, that the time of conception may have an influence on a baby being better quipped to deal with the seasons. I cannot remember where I read that but it does not matter.
What matters are - in a nutshell and these are MY thoughts only:
1. People believe in different things and if this helps them live their life, that is fine by me.
2. It is ok to challenge any thinking as long as it is done in a respectful non-demeaning way.
3. This thread was intended to be more playful than scientific which it does not claim to be. |

And yes, there is this argument that micromovements in facial expression can give away so much about a person when being in a consultation. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"
And therein lies my concern. I was born into a fundamentalist Christian group that borders on being a cult, whose teachings and behaviors have made a lasting impact on my life. But the thing is, I was brought up being told to question ideas, to have free will and genuinely believed I did. It turns out that free will is incredibly hard to have when everything around you influences your behavoir. So when tv shows, newspapers, magazines, chat rooms all tell the same lie, how is a person supposed to form an unbiased opinion? The answer is of course that those same forms of media offer alternative views. So while it may seem reasonable to some to say "if you don't like it,ignore it" my personal experience makes me feel different. When I see stuff like this it makes me want to bite. Sometimes I don't but generally it will illicit some kind of response.
As for legislating against the press, if only we could eh? The press should be free but only free to print truth.

I have to say, I agree with you on this one. And I can understand why you want to bite. In fairness, during the last election, during the Brexit campaign to name but two... I wanted to bite quite a lot. Mainly because I thought people were not asking enough questions.
Then I realised that sometimes people want an easy life, have other priorities and all sorts of reasons why they don't challenge what I would consider worthy of challenge.
Thanks for explaining where your stance comes from - it does make sense.

Me thinks it's a complete load of Uranus or should that be bull? Guessed yet?
Yep, Taurus.
It says I like food - hate food - very seldom like it. I eat cos I have to.. I have a bland diet cos of my stomach. However, love making it & sharing it!
It says I love shopping - honest answer - Nooooo! SAS (in & out.) However, I do gravitate to the more expensive clothing & Porcelain.... maybe I just appreciate design elements or colour.
I watched a discussion program in lockdown & the writer that was chatting is a columnist for one of the better papers. He said that his 1st job was writing the bits for papers in the Zodiac signs column section. he said he made everything up. I've heard another columnist say that too & he said he made it up!
So I can't be convinced. Sorry.
But I still take a crafty peek when I look in a paper that has it just for the entertainment value! ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Ah yes. Because big employers doing a thing makes in it any way sensible, supportable, or remotely a good idea.
Please read about who created the test, their "scientific" background, and what they based it on.
Seriously. You might as well employ people based on their star sign. Both scams rely on the same trick to make people think they work. |

Thanks for this. MB is something I've only vaguely been involved in once during some management training years ago and I remember then being frustrated by the binary nature of its questions/results but never looked into it further. Just been doing some reading on the criticisms of it that strangely enough no one seems to mention.

Ditto with some of those traits, certainly the latter which got me into a few scrapes as a much younger bloke.. |
