When was the last time you went swimming?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Before the last lockdown. Can't get a family swim session booked under the new rules - you have to phone up no more than 48hrs before and it's worse than ringing the feckin' doctors! We're working, we can't sit hitting redial thirty thousand times on Thursdays and Fridays *insert angry emoji* |

"It was lovely in the sea today. The water was pretty clear too which was nice"
Sounds lush.
What are the currents like down there?
We can get some pretty strong currents due to the Solent being quite narrow and swishing around the isle of wigit |

The currents aren't too bad just by us but if you go further along the coast to Camber they can be wicked. |

Before lockdown. I used to go quite regularly and really miss it. Now I have to book a lane swim and they get booked quickly and never at a convenient time for me.
I want to try open water swimming but need to buy a wetsuit. It's too cold up here!

About 4 months before the 1st lockdown.
I haven't bothered going back to the local pool until all restrictions end as it's just too much of a bother to have to book time slots for only lane swimming.

It wasn't proper swimming, but had a dip in a nice pool of a river just over couple weeks ago while I was panning for gold. Was bloody cold to say the least. |

Errm, 1965.
It was at a school class learn to swim trip to the local Council owned swimming baths.
There was a new instructor whose first move was to get us used to the water over our heads. Thus, he held a broom handle out from the pool edge but 6" under the water.
We had to dive under it from one side to the other; this within 5 minutes of entering the pool for the first time ever. If we didn't do it, he shouted at us and got angry.
Hardly any one of us did as he wanted, we were terrified! He even argued with the teachers who defended us and told him he was frightening all the kids.
He was fired later; I've been afraid of going into water since. |

I sail and paddleboard in the solent / hamble / portsmouth harbour areas. I can point you towards some good info about local tides that might help. |

Same story pops up every year, usually some pissed up fishermen see a bag floating in the water around hayling island and suddenly it's a news story that they have seen a great white.

Miss swimming tremendously.
Don't even know if the local pools are open yet. Thought about wild/open swimming but it seems like a right faf and safety is hugely important. Can't really do it by yourself which is a problem.

Bloody hell! That's awful! I bet a lot of your classmates were left with the same fear. |
