Just a bit of Tom Hardy appreciation... He's a remarkable actor and an incredibly handsome guy!! His performance in Locke rivals Richard Burtons' peak-career work... I've been a fan since Star Trek Nemesis & his work never disappoints!

"Should b next James bond x "

I wholeheartedly agree. As an actor, he has all of the qualities that Bond fans (of which I'm definitely one!) would love to see... I think that he could bring us a pared - back interpretation of the part... Hard-edged and ruthless, but not afraid to show vulnerability and doubt, like Timothy Daltons' marvellous portrayal of 007....

James Norton is a very close second. I've seen a lot of his theatre and television work and he's fantastic...I met him and found him to be a real gentleman, lovely person!

There's no denying it, any of his work referenced in the thread here is well worth your time - I'm biased as I have a proper man-crush on Mr Hardy, but I don't think he's ever given a bad performance... Whether it's advertising/voiceover work, television or film, he's magnetic.

I wish I could see him do some theatre work...

My missus loves him in Taboo. I thought he was brilliant and gifted after seeing Bronson, Locke, The Revenant and The Take. I didn't even recognise him in the Revenant! He's a brilliant character actor - he's made two comic villains work as Bane and Eddy Brock in Venom.

His role in Locke is a marvellous chamber - piece for showing exactly how talented he is... It plays like a stage monologue in many ways, and it's absolutely gripping. If you were doing a deep dive into his work, it should top of the list IMO

"Locke" IS imho one of the best static shot character driven films of the 21st Century! Most people would generally not watch it, but I watch all kinds of films. Ask any other actor to be a character talking almost straight to camera for an hour and a half - most will balk. Its a heavy role too. The Welsh accent is not easy to get! My missus says he reminds her a bit of Richard Burton!

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

It wasn't "The Take" I saw him in lol It was "The Drop". Another good film. I wasn't so sure of him in "Nemisis" and I'm a bit of Trekky fan. It was a bit of mad role, my missus just remember's the PVC-like suit he was wearing. There's a good comedy film with him, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon called "This means War" it's a strictly by the numbers action comedy. Even though the writer's of it have blatantly favoured Chris Pines character, Tom Hardy's seems to steal every scene - well my missus says so!

I remember when he did storytelling on Cbeebies - All the Tom Hardy appreciation society was watching lol. As Alfie in PB he's brilliant - he reminds me of Alec Guinness as Fagin. Pulling off a cockney golders green jewish accent is tough, but he does it with ease. My missus loves him in the film "Warrior" cos he's showing off his ripped physique

I've a bit Tom Hardy man crush, Ryan Gosling too (loved him in blade runner 2049 ).

I'd love to see Micheal Fassbender as Bond because of seeing him in "Shame" - its an acting masterclass about him being a sex addict. Powerful stuff and the missus loves his dark, brooding, serious character in this film too. (Plus she got a peek at his dangly bits.)

Full credit to him for his performance in Legend, Bronson, Peaky blinders amongst others.

On a personal level though, he gives it the big one about being from a rough area in London with a disadvantaged background. Has a london/ faux Jamaican road man accent, when the reality is he's a spoilt posh kid from a very wealthy family.

I remember him being called out in an interview and he spat his dummy out, refusing to answer questions.

Never be ashamed where you come from, it's only your starting place not your final destination.

I love that bit. . . He says the line the pulls up a grenade launcher or something. My missus is hoping Taboo will come back. I'm hoping he develops a series or film when his production company bought the rights to an absolute gem of a graphic novel called "100 Bullets" . There's a couple of characters he could do with ease. It's an amazing story, I can't sing it praises any higher.
