Somewhere In The Ether…

…..when someone approaches you in public and clearly knows you (even my name in this case!) but even upon a major on the spot purging of the old memory banks, you simply can’t remember them for love nor money!

I didn’t wish to appear rude in this instance and did my best, ‘Oh yes! I remember you!’ but even an hour or so on of mulling over it, I STILL have absolutely no bloody idea who I was speaking to earlier.

Please tell me you all can relate to this right or am I going to have to visit the Wizard Of Oz for a new brain?

I get this often. Old colleagues, even family I haven't seen for ages...

I do this all the time. I grew up in a small town and because of my sporting endeavours more people knew who I was than I knew them. One of the reasons I moved away was to get away from this

I’ve reached a point where i just confess the truth. It’s the best way to handle it

You're not alone OP. I had this even when I was younger.

My memory is terrible, I normally fess up and just say "I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage.....I'm frightfully sorry"

If I don't remember somebody or forget their name then I'll say so but be polite about it. I'm not going to be upset if somebody forgets my name from a long time ago so they shouldn't be upset about me doing it.

Forgetting things just part of being human. I'm not going to feel shame about that. If somebody thinks I should feel bad about it they can sod off.

Haha, I did that in the supermarket recently, we were stood there chatting for ages. But in my head I'm like "who the fuck are you and how do you know my name and about life?"

Somewhere In The Ether…

Update: By Jove! I finally remembered who it was!

(A barmaid who used to serve me in a nearby pub)

My mind is at peace once more
