"Name one.
I'll start.
Inner Space.
I thought this before, I loved this film as a kid.
Me too. They could really vamp it up couldn't they. "
If we’re thinking along those lines may I suggest “ the last star fighter” that would look awesome with some 2020 cgi instead of 1980’s |

I remember listening to Stephen Fry talking about the trailer if they ever did decide to make it.
A black screen, then a few voices can’t quite hear what they’re saying, then an engine spluttering as it’s just starting up, the screen starts to show a picture, we then see a propeller burst into life, spinning as smoke appears from its side. No music just the engine the screen goes black again with words appearing to us in the screen ‘The Dam Busters’ ..whilst we still hear the engine
Nothing more is needed |

I watched a new film the other day that really NEEDS to be remade already - this time by making it actually decent and exploring the ideas better (it was a fantastic concept).
Archenemy starring Joe Manganiello (the manliest man alive surely!)
What a colossal waste of both his talents and indeed what could and SHOULD have been an awesome idea.
As it was, it was a load of arty bollocks.

"I don’t think I can name a remake that was as good as the original, so why bother with remakes?
Scarface and The thing (not the recent one). Pretty sure that's it"
John Carpenter’s, The Thing is truly one of the best remakes ever (and differed so much from the 1950’s original that it was pretty much only a remake in name)
The 1978 remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers was another film which showed how remakes should be done |

The recent one (2011) is a remake kinda of the 1982 one which was a kinda remake already of "The Thing from Another World" from 1951 They are all based on the book "Who Goes There?" from 1938 |

Talking of John Carpenter, did anyone watch the remake of his creepy classic, ‘The Fog.’?
Christ on a pogo stick! - That was utterly abysmal! Sweet Jesus it was bad! I mean, REALLY fucking bad! Holy shit! I have no words.
It was not very good. |

I love John Carpenters work but I always thought ‘The Fog’ was one of his weaker films. Better than the majority of other Directors output, but nowhere as good as precinct 13, escape from New York or Halloween. To me those films had more creeping fear than the fog, especially the shock opening of Assault on Precinct 13, that gang scared me more than some dead sailors.
However have to totally agree with the remake, total tosh |

People misunderstand the Politics of the book because of the film which while being a good film imo, they tried to change the Federal Republic style of governance into some sort of weird Facist goverment. Even though the film failed at that also anyway past some people wearing snazzy black suits to look SS like. |

Kurt totally owned the character of Snake Pliskin. I always loved the part where he just sits on a chair looking a bit despondent, then the crazies arrive and he kicks into action.
It’s one remake I certainly don’t want to see. |

I was actually quite fond of the Assault On Precinct 13 remake a few years back. The original will always be the best for me (like you said - THAT opening with the ice cream truck was shocking back in the day as it still is today!) but as remakes go, a pretty good one I thought |

I'll have to put the book on my list, see what's like. The director of the film grew up The Netherlands during World War 2, so the SS imagery and propaganda was supposed to be satirical"
Yeah Paul Verhoeven. I have heard that. But yeah people take it as thats also what the book is like when its not at all (I have read a bit of it just need to restart). As some sort of Facist dictatorship. when in reality it was more of a Roman Republic
Plus in the book they have like mech suits and shit, not armour made from old tyres they found down the road from the set. Which is a bit cooler lol |

"I don’t think I can name a remake that was as good as the original, so why bother with remakes?
Scarface and The thing (not the recent one). Pretty sure that's it
John Carpenter’s, The Thing is truly one of the best remakes ever (and differed so much from the 1950’s original that it was pretty much only a remake in name)
The 1978 remake of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers was another film which showed how remakes should be done
The Carpernter version most closely follows the book
I’ve been meaning to read, ‘Who goes there?’ for literally years. Now you’ve reminded me, I think I’m going to have a ganders on Amazon and finally fulfil this wish
Yeah its in my list of sci fi books that have films i have been meaning to read, same with Starship Troopers
Didn't know The Thing was originally a book, have to give that a go. Starship troopers I've heard is bit... problematic, or maybe just the author
Nothing is problematic in fiction unless you have pink hair and horn rimmed glasses and probably did gender studies at uni

Yes that is correct from what i have heard also |

"Talking of John Carpenter, did anyone watch the remake of his creepy classic, ‘The Fog.’?
Christ on a pogo stick! - That was utterly abysmal! Sweet Jesus it was bad! I mean, REALLY fucking bad! Holy shit! I have no words.
It was not very good.
I love John Carpenters work but I always thought ‘The Fog’ was one of his weaker films. Better than the majority of other Directors output, but nowhere as good as precinct 13, escape from New York or Halloween. To me those films had more creeping fear than the fog, especially the shock opening of Assault on Precinct 13, that gang scared me more than some dead sailors.
However have to totally agree with the remake, total tosh
I was actually quite fond of the Assault On Precinct 13 remake a few years back. The original will always be the best for me (like you said - THAT opening with the ice cream truck was shocking back in the day as it still is today!) but as remakes go, a pretty good one I thought
You know what I’m going to say ...’got a light ?’
I didn’t like it, but as remakes go it wasn’t an insult to the original film. "

"The Great Gatsby. The book is a masterpiece but both film versions are flawed.
"
I'll take issue with this. It is my favourite book and i expected to hate the latest version and ended up loving it. There were flaws i agree with that but overall i think moving it from jazz age to hip hop worked very well and i loved the soundtrack. But as always YMMV |

i heard somewhere they are remaking Escape from New York, or atleast trying to

I personally dont think it would work without Kurt Russell
Kurt totally owned the character of Snake Pliskin. I always loved the part where he just sits on a chair looking a bit despondent, then the crazies arrive and he kicks into action.
It’s one remake I certainly don’t want to see. "
The only person I could see currently being able to do this is Chris Pratt |

Every movie.
I'd like to see any movie redo with a more modern style, be it cleaner camera, better sound, updated effects or cgi.
Why do I feel this? Because the original would always exist. It is not going anywhere and a remake won't ever remove the original from existence. And it makes me appreciate more, or at the least see the original in a new way.
The only true downside I see to any movie not being remade is that if it turns out to be truely bad like a fair few tend to be, it is a huge missed opportunity to actually doing it right.
However, remakes of lesser loved movies should be priority, as some movies are more difficult to remake largely due to how iconic some actors/characters are.
Examples
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
The cast of Star Wars OT.

The urge to remake classic films is one that particularly irks me.
Mainly because I know how much work goes into creating, producing, shooting, editing, etc. All of that time, money and effort into something that has already been done (usually better)?
New production values aren’t always better, bigger budgets don’t guarantee a better artistic process (look at west end theatre vs off strip productions).
I’d rather that the big studios stop hedging their bets for diminished returns and make interesting unique and special films |

Gremlins would benefit from a remake/reboot |

Recently it feels like it has got stagnant and the first thought for film companies is remakes or reboots instead of using the countless books and other media to create some new.
I could be wrong though. |

Speaking of John Carpenter, how about a remake of Big Trouble In Little China. Seeing as how he never got to finish his true vision, remake it how he really wanted it |

Because so much is niche, they have tried to do this and things barely get much traction.
Sometimes because what they do is absolute shit, or because it does not just appeal to the masses.
If they do find something that appeals, it is usually created by those that don't care or even know of the source material. Resulting in an ever poorer product. |

"Nosferatu"
Great call!
Werner Herzog did a fantastic remake in the late seventies starring Klaus Kinski in the role of Count Orlok. It has a wonderfully dreamlike quality to it and Kinski himself was particularly excellent.
He opted for a more pitiable representation of the titular character as opposed to Max Shrek’s original, grotesque and predatory portrayal (and bloody scary to boot!)
He (Kinski) also reprised the role once more in the later, Vampire In Venice which was watchable if not entirely awe inspiring |

Apparently, it is in the wings as we speak…..with The Rock possibly on board in the role of Jack Burton.

Highlander. I've never seen such a brilliant concept so painful carried out. What was it? 4 movies? 2 TV series..and it still failed to for fill it's true potential.
Someone put a call through to Joss Whedon or Christopher Nolan. |
