"“Ladies” is my preferred choice. Rolls off the tongue much easier. Otherwise I’ll use women and girls depending on the context. I can’t keep up with all the newfangled terms we’re supposed to use in order to not cause offence to someone. Words that used to be normal when I left Britain have now become somewhat unacceptable. I can’t think what they are now but it occasionally astonishes, and perhaps, amuses me when I come across one." Please note..... I'm not actually taking offense to any term. "Females reminds me of Friday Night Dinner and makes me laugh and not take seriously anything that follows. I don't mind women. Girls... no. Most of the women here are way too old. Wench I love. A friend of mine always calls me a chatty buxom wench. I don't mind lass because it reminds me of someone and he has such a way of saying it. I don't like sweetie (sorry whoever posted that!) because it reads a bit... actually I'm not going to type that. Some people do like it. To be honest most words don't particularly bother me, I understand we all have our own way of saying certain things and as long as it's not deliberately offensive, I don't care. Hun is my utter pet peeve though. Hun. " Apart from sweetie, which I don't mind.... I'm with you. Hun is just. Just very. No.

And then it hurts and I knew deep down it was a bad idea and should never have got the pillows out." I’m not normally violent, just sometimes a switch is flipped and it’s an involuntary instant reaction. But I do love a good pillow or play fight, gets the blood pumping

"Women is my preferred collective term Or girls in relation to my friends A female is a thing rather than a person, for me And lady is often used by a guy trying too hard to demonstrate how much of a gentleman he is" Weirdly "girls" from women about women doesn't have the same "hell no" factor for me actually. Agree about female, but I think "lady" and "ladies" can be used as you say but can also just be because he is actually just polite like that.

I agree, females are things, I go out with the girls but I'm not a girl, women is just meh as in women's issues etc just describes a bland group but I'm a lady! That's how I describe ladies, and think of myself even my daughter (she's a young lady) and definitely my preference I have absolutely no problem with colloquialisms though ... down have often called burd or luvva by some 23 yo girl/lady/female etc!! And everyone else! Been called alsorts all over the country and actually take it as a compliment really! Could be a lot worse Hun or babe though ... just nah

"I'm not fussy to be honest - I work with people that use the terms slapper and tart as a hello Think it depends more of the context it is in, as is often the case in this complicated thing called life " Aww slapper and tart ARE a hello! I agree. Context is key.

"In general there’s something about the term females I find grating when used and often quite sexist. Fortunately it’s not used a lot. I really don’t like terms of endearment by people I don’t know. Those I do know, well then I don’t mind at all and whatever comes up between us Lex " I think females has become more popular because of a TV show that my brain is not helping me to name right now but I think Meli mentioned it up there....^^ Not too much so in my neck of the woods thankfully, but more online.

"Women is my preferred collective term Or girls in relation to my friends A female is a thing rather than a person, for me And lady is often used by a guy trying too hard to demonstrate how much of a gentleman he is" Sorry, couldn’t disagree more about men using the term ladies. It was a common term when I was growing up. It’s the term that comes to mind for me. It always has. We used it formally in school, despite it being an all boys school. At the time, women and girls were perfectly acceptable as well. Wrench most certainly was not. Sign of the times.
