This morning i got the milk in and a bird had busted the top with its beak . i made a brew and smiled thinking that always used to happen in the olden days, not so much now. birds must be lactose intolerant or something nowdays.
Anyhow, what little day to day things give you a blast from the past feeling? |

Wood burning. Reminds me of my Dad making bonfires in our garden as a child but also when I lived in a house without electricity or gas and my beautiful wood burner was my winter lifeline. |

It was off grid before I'd even heard that phrase ! In the Spanish countryside far from any mains connections. |

Ah, I've never smoked but the smell still reminds me of my Grandad who I loved very much. |

Makes me smile and remember making jam on toast on our coal fire as a kid with a wicked big toasting fork. Then laying on my tummy munching and reading in front of flames |

Coming back from the Pub stinking of smoke even though you don't smoke. Youngsters will never have to do that! |

Seeing old shears or push mowers, alongside metal files. My dad was super lawn proud and did the lines the lot!
Also, allotments, our dear old neighbour grew rhubarb, potato, onions, beans, strawberries. He was so kind and turned a blind eye to me and my sisters as kids stealing pea pods to snack on! |

Smells are such a powerful link to the past. There’s a certain type of plant in summer, no idea what it is , but every time i smell it I’m instantly transported to Darwin in 1995 getting off a plane in the middle of the night to a red hot wind blowing on my face , and that smell |

Wild garlic. My grandma has a beautiful house with a little wood with lots of wild garlic growing in it. Whenever I smell it I think of happy summers spent there.
And those brightly coloured gel pens remind me of my angst ridden emo diaries of my youth.

confession time for me... I quite like cheap chocolate
don't get me wrong - I like nice chocolate, and that's what I normally eat (way too often)... but absolutely love any excuse to eat Xmas tree chocolates etc too. |

Noooooo! I've quite a sophisticated palate for choccie now, after all the cheap shite I had as a kid!
(Though not so sophisticated that I'll eat very dark choc....) |

Mum sent me out with the money to buy an ice cream once when the van pulled up outside, there was a queue of kids there and Mr Whippy serving them, needless to say it was my off duty fireman dad with another part time job, great fun when you are five years old though |

I learnt the same harsh lesson after watching the old Milk Tray adverts.....
I decided to mimic them by stealthily creeping into a lady’s apartment to place the box down but was promptly arrested for breaking and entering and she took out a restraining order against me
To add insult to injury, it turned out the lady in question was lactose intolerant to boot |

Stale beer and smoke.
Seems weird, but I was brought up in pubs, and the smell of drip trays and fags (a distinct combination) will send me back to my childhood |

The smell of coal fires, growing up in a rural village in the 80's everyone had one and it reminds me of playing out with my mates on a night in winter where you could see and smell all the smoke in the air.
I certainly don't miss it being at home when the wind would occasionally blow the smoke back down the chimney and it would fill the living room though!! |

Do you still have a milkman? (or milkperson)
I quite like putting a record on and hearing that gentle crackle before the music starts. It reminds me of my grandpa. I inherited his record player and hundreds of classical albums. Luke |

Absolutely. My Uncle smoked cigars that had been soaked in whiskey or port, that takes me back. |

Just because I am young doesn't mean I havn't seen alot of change.
Don't be that guy
The change from cassette tapes to streaming music
Video tapes to streaming apps
The beginning of household internet
Concords
The smoking ban in pubs
Gay marriage made legal
I could go on and on and on and that is just my small 31 years |
