"Do you compliment your friends, on appearance or personality traits?"
Yes, absolutely. More on personality than appearance
" Do you compliment strangers on their appearance?"
Not in "real life", unless I'm in the pub (remember them?!?) or have had Dutch courage |

I’m actually terrible at complimenting people - I worry I come across insincere, plus with friends we don’t tend to take each other too seriously - instead I try to show them I am grateful when I can. If I’m in the mood I’ll say something! |

Yes very much so, I told the woman on the checkouts that she has excellent scanning skills and that she should go professional, she said technically she was a professional. |

Depends on the situation, if I'm at a check out and I love the ladies nail polish or something for example I would compliment them yes |

Yes to both depends on the setting
Ie wouldn’t just walk up to a stranger on the street and complement them without first talking to them
But in a message or in a public forum setting
Or even a stranger depending if we chating first then I may skip the odd your eye are wonderful captvaing they so beautiful I could get lost in them for hours telling you just how beautiful you are

I once said ‘I like your heart to a barmaid at a festival. She said that was a weird thing to say.
So yes I do, but some don’t like it or don’t know how to take it.

Do you compliment strangers on their appearance?"
Everyone like complements, so yes but very rarely, only when there is something to complement them on and the context is correct - my complements are always genuine, but will get lost in the myriad of empty (If I give you a complement will you....), would rather give someone a genuine heart felt complement than a shallow empty one |

I do compliment people often. It is lovely to make someone smile.
Although before I moved to Devon I'd not have complimented a random person for fear of their reaction.
Back in pre plague days when I walked the streets I'd compliment random strangers for things round here. Tis what we do. |

"How does a stranger know if a compliment is genuine?"
Why would I bother saying I like your dress to a complete stranger as I walk past? I guess if the were a pessimist they wouldn't believe me, but logically I have nothing to gain by it, so why would it be fake? |

Because I liked the dress? And instead of saying it in my head I say it out loud. Some people may have agendas but not everyone. |

I try to make an effort with to compliment friends, even if it's something small like they look particularly happy that day Strangers I have done on the past when the mood takes me, though I always worry particularly with women if it's coming off as leery |

I think I give quite a lot of compliments but don't receive many ! That's not an invite or complaint, btw,
With strangers I'm more likely to say something to a man than a woman because the latter can make some people awkward. Conversely guys are almost always pleasantly surprised if another guy says something about their appearance. |

"Do you compliment your friends, on appearance or personality traits?
Do you compliment strangers on their appearance?"
Yes I do. With friends it's more likely to be on their personality traits, I'm one of those annoying sorts who every 10 minutes says how wonderful a person is when I think they are.
I don't compliment strangers on their appearance but I will compliment them on things they are wearing. I've even been that weirdo who said someone has a beautiful voice because he did. |

If I feel a compliment is deserved them yes - it's nice to let people hear positive things about themselves.
I always like it when I get random compliments day to day.

Their motive...and I don't necessarily mean a sinister one.
I think it makes some feel good about themselves to compliment others.
Which is fine. But , as has often been referenced on the forum, some people take the hump when their compliment isn't well received |

I told a woman stood in front of me in a queue yesterday that I really liked her boots. I had no ulterior motive, I expected nothing in return, they were just really nice boots. It resulted in a big smile on her face and we continued to chat while we were waiting.

I do compliment people on here if I like a particular photo pose or video or like the attitude of their profile. And this is not as a prelude to trying to set up a meeting or anything. I send complimentary messages to people who I'm very unlikely to ever meet because of distance. But if they've posted a photo I particularly like I'll tell them in the hope they will post more. |

I do if I think it’s particularly deserving. I don’t throw them around freely to the point they become worthless. And I don’t tit for tat and throw one back just because someone may offer one to me. I like to feel any I receive are honest and heartfelt and so that’s how I give mine too. And so on that note, your pic in your angel t shirt from the beginning of the week OP. Fabulous, your best in my opinion.

I do pay compliments frequently. As long as they aren't skeevy "nice tits love, I'd like to jizz all over them" type compliments why not?
If it's with strangers it tends to be more about what they're wearing than it does their looks, so I wouldn't say "you're really pretty" but I might say "your shoes are gorgeous" or "I love your nails". If something strikes me then I tend to say it. |

But also strangers - nice dress/hair/shoes kind of thing. It's always been well received.

I do to friends (when I notice, I’m a guy after all ...).

Absolutely I do.
In a world that can be utterly shit, I make it my mission to spread some happiness (fuck me, that sounds cheesy)
I only share lovely things on Facebook, I like to randomly message people on here when they have a particularly good photo or nice comment to someone, I wish people a good day on emails.
When we are in public, and, you know, allowed to speak to people, I try and compliment as many people as I can.
I may be weird, and most people might shrug it off, but someone made a nice comment about my shoes one day (Irregular Choice, obviously) and I really needed that boost. Now it's my turn to pay it back
The world is shit, don't make it worse!
Her x |

If I think I say it. I love to give someone a compliment. The way they look, they way they go about things in life, or just simply saying I like something in particular about them. Even if it means interrupting them while they are talking to just say it as I think it.

I realised i focused on the outside of fab world.
Here, I think most compliments are just flirtatious or polite. You don't want to be mean to person above or below as well. I'm not one for typing Pass in the games if I take part or anything. Rather say nothing. But here sometimes you might feel lightly obliged to return the compliment or say something to make someone feel better? I don't like doing it. |
