Glasgow city centre isnt that big in terms of places with decent pubs - ended up on a date in bishopbriggs - that was my first red flag

Of course, it’s always best to be honest about difficult life situations, but I can understand some bending of the truth - people are in some situations that would be looked upon quite unfavourably, so they try to keep that part of their lives hidden. I don’t blame them, especially because of the sometimes unachievable expectations and demands we put upon each other. Sometimes we feel like we have to jump through hoops just to get even the slightest of interactions.

However, there are some lies that are just out-and-out deceitful - age, height, old photos, typical catfishing behaviour that will be found out on the first meet. I don’t understand that as much, but I think it comes from the same place as the feelings of inadequacy at not meeting the expectations and demands of others.

Maybe if we were a bit more compassionate and less judgemental of others, people wouldn’t feel the need to lie, and might feel more comfortable with the aspects of our lives that aren’t “perfect”.

Just a thought.

When I met someone just after I joined I couldn’t find somewhere to park, and by the time I did I was 5 minutes late. Tales just like the ones above were rushing through my head - he says he’s running a bit late but then he never turned up....

I dunno, I think it applies to some of the things people are saying. A lot of bending of the truth comes from being ashamed of one’s situation. That’s the bit that needs a bit more understanding. Obviously there are people that lie for much more deceitful and nefarious reasons, so I’m not talking about them.

Me either. Who knows? But looking at your pictures, you are incredibly pretty and look amazing. You probably wouldn’t have to work hard to get a date. Some people aren’t that fortunate.

It seems like the men on this site are the ones doing the chasing. So in such an incredibly competitive environment, the men have to be as perfect as possible to get the attention of the women, so some men lie to get it.

Your first point is certainly true, hence why I use this singles profile rather than our couples profile. So there is no mistake in knowing who you are talking to.

That being said automatically puts me in the "Dirty Rotten Scoundrel" typecast category to all the anti solo male angsts and judgement. Is that maybe why some disguise themselves as couples?

In terms of most expansive, I’ve heard a few, some of them for the benefit of the person saying it, some to the detriment of others.

The biggest has got to be the lie that span on for years in relation to a person being single and who they were meeting in that time.

The most hurtful is probably the one intended to split two people up and included various forum users in its dissemination and various lies in its intent.

I think that liars tell themselves that their intent outweighs the lies that they tell but as soon as you take away a persons honest choice or decision as to their actions, then that’s immoral at best and at worst, assault

It was early evening midweek.

2. Second time their boyfriend came home so I didn't get there in time before he got back...

I must say though - I have a 4 bed flat that I rent out to single sharers. Mostly they are men in late 40’s/early 50’s who have been kicked out by their wives/ partners and have numerous children dotted around. It is the only way they can afford to live after their chequered relationships end and they are left in debt. One of my tenants last year was in his early 30’s and had left his wife and 1 year old child in the mortgaged home and moved in. Two months later he said he had to move out and gave some excuse about not getting on with the other tenants. One of them told me he had moved out to live with his Mother’s best friend who he had been seeing for several months, the reason his wife chucked him out.

Agree to some degree

Happens in chat also, So we have two types of lies, and the people who tell them.

Those that lie about their status or intent in order get sex! etc.

Those hidden lies that are perpetuated behind WhatsApp groups, PMs mask of people who claim nobal intent, the staters and the perpetuators.

Most of the posts have been directed towards the former, they are open lies maybe.

Latter concealed lies.

One is unacceptable, the other seems to be acceptable.
