I'm absolutely useless at this.
I can change a fuse on a plug and that's my limit.
I can paint ok, but ask me to fix something that's broken, no chance.

I'm pretty handy with anything EXCEPT cooking and the garden lol. Its purely down to interest though. Anyone can do anything they want if they want to learn how, with the exception of God given abilities I.e I will never think like Stephen Hawkins. |

During 1st lockdown I renovated a flat including new walls, kitchen, bathroom wiring etc, basically gutted it. I also rebuilt 2 engines and fitted them but good god I can't cook rice hence why I use the 2mins microwave stuff |

I'd much rather know how to do the jobs in my flat than cook rice

Time served carpenter and joiner with oodles of experience in the construction industry. Currently renovating a small cottage I bought a couple of months ago.
Lots of other work on as folks want to take advantage of the time afforded by the current Covid situation.
No job to small! |

I can do a lot of things, I've renovated two houses so a lot of things I learnt as I went along...I won't mess with electrics as a rule, bar changing a light fitting or socket front, and I haven't attempted plastering yet. But I changed the lock on my front door last week. |

I laid all my laminate flooring myself, tiled my kitchen and utility room walls and my storeroom floor.
I think I’m quite competent at most things, or if I’m not I watch videos and learn.
I’m contemplating knocking through my boarded up fireplace, but it makes me nervous so I might get the professionals in for that! |

Not really it was an auction purchase and I have taken it back to a shell. The electricians are in today first fixing and I have first fixed all the hot and cold water supplies.
It will look Bonnie when finished. |

Dont start me ranting. Once they actually turn up, then they realise you live alone, the texts start, 'shall I come round early and wake you with a coffee' 'there are more ways than one to pay me love' as they wink and leer over me |

I started a business based on quality work and being reliable. All the contractors I use have the same ethos. Time is money and wasting on frivolous activities is stupid
Getting hold of materials is the main issue now! |

I think the trick is to find someone local who knows people
When I first moved in this house, I wanted someone to check the boiler
There is a shop down the road that sells DIY / Hardware
I went in and asked if they knew any domestic gas engineers
They put me in touch with someone who, it turns out, lives about 200 yards up the road
In turn, he has put me in touch with a plasterer, an electrician and a painter / decorator
The decorator has, in turn, put me in touch with a joiner
They've all turned up when they should, done what was asked and haven't been silly with prices
All I need now is someone who does damp proofing and pointing and doesn't want to charge thousands upon thousands to fix one wall |

Given the right tools, I’m pretty good at quite a lot of DIY and decorating work, but serious electrics and plumbing I’ll leave to the pros; mind you, some of the stuff I’ve uncovered during lockdown makes you wonder...

Don't ask me to paint though, absolutely hate it and probably the only thing I would class as a chore |

I'm more at the interior design end of household DIY - I've tiled floors and walls, I paint, decorate, renovate furniture, hang shelves, make curtains, lay carpet, basic garden landscaping, that sort of thing.
I know some basic mechanics on older style cars (like changing a fan belt) but I tend to keep that all under wraps - my days of getting my hands dirty are well behind me

I'm a time-served mechanical engineer, working on contractor's plant and I was a JCB hydraulics specialist.
I gave most of my tools away to an apprentice agricultural engineer a few years ago.
The only DIY things around the house I wasn't too good at was plumbing and plastering. I have hung doors, fitted carpets, fitted a kitchen, did some rewiring after removing an internal wall.
I can bake, too! |

I can do basic DIY and am a dab hand at decorating.
Hubby is very practical and can do pretty much anything he sets his mind to.
We (he) renovated the bathroom during lockdown, including moving the loo to fit a shower in and all the plumbing.
He also did the downstairs loo. |

I'm a qualified motorcycle mechanic and have no problem with bikes and can generally service a car.
But I'm not a lover of DIY so tend not to do any unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm a believer in if I can't finish it, then don't start it. So I don't. |

Used to be an industrial floor layer.
Good at most things, did kitchen and bathroom in my house
plastering is okish, never tried bricklaying although considering their tolerances seem to be measured in inches I’d back myself.
Only things I got pros in for is major electrical or a spark to sign off my work, gas and central heating. |

I love an excuse to get the tools out, if you get my meaning.
Not bad at carpentry, could rewire your house, fix your washing machine. Can do plumbing, but I prefer not to... plastering is for the experts though. I'm not messing with that... |

No. No. No. I cannot hang paper or paint.
I'm a short arse. Don't say ladders....... that doesn't solve anything.
